MORGAN HILL – An assortment of unique bicycles worth $160,000 was stolen from Specialized Bicycle Components in Morgan Hill over the weekend, authorities said.
Officers were called to the company’s headquarters at 15130 Concord Circle about 4:35 p.m. Sunday for a report of a burglary, the Morgan Hill Police Department said in a news release.
Police said officers determined that thieves had forced their way into the business during daytime hours and stolen many high-value bikes. The bikes were part of a collection of one-of-a-kind prototypes, race-winning and personally owned bikes on display at Specialized.
Security camera footage showed a maroon Toyota 4Runner and a white box van at the scene. The stolen bikes were loaded into the back of the latter vehicle, police said.
Police said the Toyota was later found unoccupied in Salinas. The box van has not been located.
The case remains under investigation and Specialized is offering a $25,000 reward for information that either leads to the arrest and conviction of the thieves or the return of all the bikes.
Anyone with information can contact Cpl. Mindy Zen at 669-253-4917 or the anonymous tip line at 408-947-7867.

Specialized is not a small company, I've never been to their HQ, but I can't imagine it to be small... besides, even if they don't warehouse inventory, there's probably a lot of "cool" stuff there so I'm surprised to know there's not 24/7 security there.

What do you think the crooks will be looking to get for Sagan's Roubaix?

I would imagine flooding the internet with photos would help. Gwen said hers is orange that turn yellow, depending on the temperature. You can see it in her Instagram.

Will it though? I thought about that but we live in a world where some people are so disgusting that they have the desire and capability to traffic other humans and are able to hide them. You still don’t think a bike can be hidden?
Edit-I’m not really ranting at/responding to you, just making a general comment to the idea that these can easily be found or that no one would buy these.

Who would be interested in these bikes? Is there a black market for ‘former glory’ bikes around the world? Are these bike like art where a collector would buy a stolen piece just to hide it away? Wondering if they are just going to strip them down and sell the components for quick cash.

Yeah! When I saw this I checked the date - thought it must be one of those "Zombie" post from years back that pops up every now and then. There seem to be some slow learners down there.
