As Lance was winning TDF, I was proud to remind my roadie friends he was a pro triathlete, known as the Kid. He was a good swimmer, a solid bicyclist, but his running wasn't pro caliber. That's one reason he left triathlon, and focused on the US Olympic development team in cycling.
Now the "kid" is a 40 something past TDF champion, perhaps the greatest cyclist ever. It would be great for the sport and Lance's fans, if one day he competed in Hawaii.
But what do you expect? Do you think Lance can win Hawaii at 40+?
Or how do you think he'd do as a 40-45 AG'er?
