That the cyclist should move over to the shoulder and get out of the car's way.
I just read an article in the Jun16 edition of Road and Track. I'm always way behind on my car magazines. There was apparently some survey re. the meaning of the ubiquitos "share the road" signs. Cyclists, in the survey, interpreted the sign to mean that, in the interest of co-existance, cars were requested to provide some room to cyclists. The most common interpretation by non-cyclists was that......you may want to sit down for this......the sign was intended to tell cyclists to get out of the car's way.
