Those types of openers to statements are tied to the fact the we, as Americans, are offended by everything. I call it the 80/20 rule.......no matter what you do or say, 20% will find fault in it. Give away free ice cream, lactose intolerant people will cry that they want something else instead of being happy for others. So, we try to back pedal before every comment, just in case someone gets offended.

However, truth in the individuals true thoughts are hidden in the message qualifier. No doubt. Or at least some fear or knowledge that it is inappropriate. Freedom of speech is gone.

Or "I'm not gonna lie"

That is sooo true. I was telling my wife that the other day. When someone make a statement like that kind, it's exactly the opposite. It's like their subconscious is talking out loud.

"Is not that you look fat, it is..."

"Is not that I have no patience, it is..."

"Is not that I don't like your kids to come over, it is..."

"With all due respect..." = I have zero respect for what you just said.
