"Health" is bull. But what about...

"Health" is a spiritual or moral thing.

It is therefore not surprising that most "science" studies in the fields of "health" and "nutrition" are complete garbage.

Here is the hard question:

Without doing a ton of personal research on a topic.....

How can one differentiate between "health" science, and the study of real things (that one might care about)?

What "tells" might one find between the scientific studies of real things, and studies of "health" that merely bring real things into the discussion?

Problem w/ health and nutrition science is that controlled lab experiments only work on the chemistry side, or bio level until you get to a limited range of test animals. Once you get to human subjects, it's not like the physical science behind engineering a new widget. Doesn't mean the science is automatically junk, it's just inherently harder to control for everything else in a human subject's background and behavior, and all you can do is try to develop a better model to isolate whatever variable it is you're investigating, out to whatever statistical confidence interval. Science is a process, not a result; when you have a population as varied as humans, that process will never be entirely straightforward.

Lol!
In my simple mind health is when all systems are operating on go. No disease process. Fitness is certainly an important part of this. Being fit is a part of optimal health. But being very fit doesn't necessarily mean one is healthy.

In medicine astute clinicians recognize that the disease is what the patient has. The illness is their experience of the disease. Not sure that health is exclusively spiritual or moral but it is to a certain degree a state of mind. You could ask a one person with a chronic disease how they feel and they might say they feel healthy. Another might say they feel sick. You certainly can be morally or spiritually healthy or not.
