What would be considered a compact gearing setup with 650c wheels? My bike is 650c and currently has a 55/44 with a 12-23 in the back. My guess is that I could go to a "standard" 53/39 with a 11-21 and be compact- but I've guessed wrong plenty of times in the past. Thanks.

Just buy a motorcycle
I'm using the same gearing right now and I'm going to try a 50/39 front with a 12/21 rear. Everything around here is flat so I don't need the 11/21 rear. I like the 12/21 rear cuz is gives me closer gears in the range that I can realistically ride. It's also nice that you don't have to buy the compact cranks and use the standard 130 bcd chainrings when you have 650's.
I've got an excel sheet with the comparisons on them if you're interested.
