who is that interloper?
So since I've been posting in a few threads I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Kathy and when I was a kid I swam AAU (so that tells you I'm pretty damn old :)). I have 4 kids (16, 14, 11 and 9) and we live in Mexico in Quintana Roo about 15km south of Playa del Carmen (just across from Cozumel). I did a triatlon once in the very early 80s in Santa Barbara - it was a HIM - but that's it for triathlons. I've been running for the last year or so and recently got injured so I started cross training and am now looking at doing a triatlon or two. We have 10 (I think) on the national circuit so we'll have to see what happens there. I don't have a particular race in mind - I'll see what's available (down here, especially with runs, you get about 1-2 weeks notice before the race that it will run) early next year.

I have no plan, no goals, just getting fit. I dropped about 15 kg 2 years ago and would like to drop another 10.

I used to scuba dive that area back in the 1980's. Back then Cozumel was a sleepy island and Playa Del Carmen was an artist community of maybe 1000 residents, half of them left over hippies. Even Cancun was a lot smaller than it is today. There were no cruise ships and no hurricane damage to the reefs. I've often thought about going back, but I think its changed too much from what I remember? I knew some Americans living in the area at the time, but they were mostly dive bums.

So what's it like living there now.

We actually live about 15 km south of PdC and I'm leaving now to pick my kids up from their Waldorf school. One of 2 Waldorf schools. Lots of Euros here. :) I think that about sums up the changes. No expats in the grade of my 9yo and none in the grade of my 16yo though - well no US expats. There is an Argentine I know of in the 16yo's class. More later.
