apparently women don't watch cycling on versus

I'm watching the Dauphine today and here are the commercials:
Bosley hair restoration
cialis
various other non Rx 'male enhancement' products
tempurpedic beds (that one might be neutral)
beard trimming product (some sort of shaver/trimmer thing)
nextel

I think it could be argued that Cialis commercials are geared for both sexes ;)

Extreme Cage Fighting that inevitably follows cycling on Versus is a real buzz kill for me, guaranteeing that I change the channel within seconds of the program's end.

While flipping through the channel guide I will notice an "outdoor" titled show, I get excited that it might be something good and hit info-hunting. Between that and the previous mentioned MMA/UFC I flip right past Versus. I do like their coverage of the Tour de France, or as the one commentator says (while thousands of Francophiles twinge) Tour da France.

Last night on Versus, Mike Brown defeated Urijah "The California Kid" Faber in a unanimous decision. It was a 5 round title fight. Faber broke his right hand in the 1st round and had to use his elbow for the rest of the fight. This made it difficult to strike and apply any type of choke hold. Lucky for you Versus will reshow the fight every other day for the next year. Oh yeah, up and comer Joe Aldo delivered a flying knee to open round one and knocked out Cub Swanson in :08 seconds. Joe Aldo will get a title shot soon!!!!

I had MMA on all day yesterday while we were screen printing. Cycling makes me nap--it's like golf in that way. Someone should put Leggett's and Sherwin's commentary on a sound track for people with sleeping disorders.

Can't wait to see the Faber fight, I have a thing for him. I used to be horrified by cage fighting until I stopped looking at it as violent and starting seeing the amazing athleticism in the sport. There are some parallels to triathlon, dedication to training in multisports and committment to a lifestyle, only with Mixed Martial Arts, you will get the ground and pound if you are weak in one of the disciplines. That's what's missing in triathlon, some ground and pound.

Erika- my brother is a BJJ practitioner and I've been to 3 classes with him. They were 3 of the hardest, most mentally exhausting workouts ever. I was sore for 3 days each time. It truly is so much more than two guys getting into a ring/octagon to beat the crap out of each other. I respect MMA as both a physical and mental sport. It's more like physical chess ;-)

Franklin/Silva this Saturday!
