Would Like Your Input
Wetsuits are a bit like Model-T Fords - you can have any colour you want as long as it's black! So assuming for the most part a black wetsuit( The good news - black makes everyone look good) what colour of trim would the women of triathlon like to see on their wetsuit.

Thanks.

Not pink. I'm done with all of the women's stuff in pink.

Light blue? Light green perhaps.

+1 on the not pink.

I think what color is less important than where you put the color. I'd really like a suit that people can pick out of the crowd.

i'm partial to red, myself...red & black combo always looks sharp.

the light blue on the women's pipeline isn't bad. much better than pink, which is really a disease, not a colour ;)

yellow would be highly visible - that's why i bought a yellow tri suit (so hubby could spot me).

white will just get dirty too quickly...i'm no friend of orange...purple is pretty much claimed by TNT, and the blueseventy suits have a lot of blue already..

green could be funky, but might blend in with the water in some swims ;)

cheers!

another not pink vote here.

Red, orange, yellow, lavender or turquoise.

I don't really care for how it looks, but having a somewhat different than all black wetsuit makes it easier to pick out.

ANYTHING BUT PINK... or those freakin' silly flowers.

Can I repeat that? ANYTHING BUT PINK.

I like blue, green and purple. But it depends on how much and where it is. If it does curly cues around your boobs, I'm out.

What about teal or aquamarine? I like purple too but I think there are too many pink/purple "womens" things out there.
It looks like my wetsuit sponsorship fell thru :( So if your looking for a fast female swimmer to model this new wetsuit for you let me know ;)

Another not pink...but I'll go as far as not purple and not a girly blue either...though of them the blue is more tolerable. I like the green idea..no one's done green that I can recall....so maybe green or silver or something along those lines....just not pink.

I'll even wear the QR flowers (since they're on my wetsuit and it's still functional I'm stuck for now) until it's got holes all over rather than replace with pink....

One of the things I really love about my wetsuit is that it is *not* black. It is a QR from around 2004 that has a blue bodice, and silver arms and legs. It's awesome as it lets even my mom pick me out of a swim crowd!

That said, I think more than trim would be awesome. Like neon green arms or something :) And I'm not partial to any particular color, I just like color!!

I had that same wetsuit and it was very easy to spot. My current one is all black.

I like the red idea - especially if it is enough to really help spot the athlete -

I need a sleeveless wetsuit....when are you thinking of producing this?

Red, orange or yellow but neutral shades of those colours, nothing trendy. Not too many colour choices.

You don't want to get stuck with a ton of leftover stock because the "cool" colour has changed in shade by the next year. eg lime green seems to be really popular right now, but will people want it next year?

Another NOT PINK vote.

I'd prefer any high visibility color, like high-vis yellow, or orange, or red.

Are there any colors that sharks don't like? That might also be high on my list.

I LOVE that my Nineteen wetsuit has pink on it and that money went to support breast cancer research. Since my mom died from breast cancer I feel like she is with me on all my open water swims.

But I'd agree there has been a lot of pink pushed on us ladies lately. I just happen to still like pink but not in over kill dosages.

Cathleen,

May I first ask why a sleeveless wetsuit? I am heading somewhere with this, but need to know your direction first.

No on pink/blue - done to death. Other than that all the rest of the color spectrum is fine by me. Hi vis shoulder color patches would really help spectators. More than a couple color choices helps even more since the odds of tons of people being the same suit diminish the more choices there are. After I have squeezed myself into the suit and stand on the beach looking like that Babe Ruth bar in Caddyshack, I'm ALL about it being easy to see me and easy to find my suit after the melee of two transitions.

I'd love to see patterns available on sublimated colored areas of the suit. I have no idea how you apply color to neoprene so it may be a non-starter. Leopard print, zebra stripes, fish scales, waves..some of the diving suits have some pretty creative stuff. Makes the suit uniquely visually identifiable in the water and out.

I already have a full sleeve (2 actually - Energie and Helix) and a swim skin. I am thinking in particular about Timberman 70.3 and worried that I will be too warm in a full sleeve but would rather have wetsuit buoyancy than a skin - so a sleeveless suit seems like the answer....

Yes, this is one of the rare instances were a sleeveless suit may( note that word - read on) be the better option. If it's a longer swim, with water temps right near the cut off, and you are prone to over heating, then a sleeveless suit might be something to consider - we do make them. However, I have always found that when you use a sleeveless suit as a solution to one issue, it creates other issues as well.

In this case - you are looking for a cooler suit. You may indeed get that but you may also get a significant slower suit. Sleeveless suits have been shown to be absolutely slower than full sleeve suits and if you get a lot of water leakage at the arm pit you'll be dragging around an extra 5 - 10 lbs of water with you on the swim, making you even slower.

DeSoto wetsuit pants. I've used them at 1/2 Vineman since the water there is always nearly 80F and somehow it's always creatively measured to be wetsuit legal. They are the bomb.

I would likely pick a red, orange or yellow if I had the options on a wetsuit. Colours that stand out - even in the greeny/blue water. :)

Fleck -

Totally off the original topic - but a question though...I'm generally a FOP swimmer...my favorite temp to swim in (sans wetsuit) is right at 70-73...I get really uppity about having "stuff" around my shoulders, arms and/or neck while swimming so the only wetsuit I've been able to tolerate (and only mildly then) is sleeveless. Even my current sleeveless one almost drove me bonkers during the Silverman swim...I have a really short torso so that could contribute to some of the issues but whatever...is there a happy medium?

-Does a wetsuit make you more "slippery" in the water and decrease the amount of "grab" you have on the water? (We used to not put oil below our elbows or knees using that logic - may be slightly off-base and just our mental games in school)
-Is there a sleeved wetsuit that doesn't impinge movement of arms and shoulders at all?
-And if it's a strong swimmer AND a well-fitted sleeveless suit, are we talking minimal damage? (OR if there IS leakage and you're carrying some extra weight - wouldn't that be slightly offset by the added bouyancy?)

Might be way off base...just curious. I've thought that if I ever dare to do any colder races I'll have to go the 2-piece route...

I vote for red. Red is my favorite color. It's the color of my bike and I usually paint my toenails to match. ha ha!

Along with a couple of others, I have a full sleeve wetsuit and have trouble in warmer waters being quite uncomfortable. Last week I raced in 90+ degree heat. The water temp. was 76, so wetsuits were allowed. Since all I have is my full sleeve, I wore it. It was a half mile swim. I started getting quite warm half way through the swim and I find myself wishing that the cutoff for wetsuits was 73 or 74 instead of 78.
I know the wetsuit really helps, and I know a full sleeve is faster, but darn if it isn't too hot sometimes!
(By the way, I almost melted on the run that day.)
