Rockman tri

anyone do the rockman tri in Illinois last year? tell me about it please. Chip says the bike is FLAT. I am from Houston so FLAT to me is sometimes different FLAT to others. And the run is rolling hills??? The elevation map looks pretty hilly. Any comments about the race would be appreciated. Its a long drive but I am willing to drive it for a good race.

My first post in the Women's room!

Yes, bike is "flat" but one from Houston may call it rolling (but even a female would never be out of her large front chainring).

Run was "rolling" for me - you will definitely call it "hilly". Most people said it was a difficult run, but I liked it. A LOT of variation (even running under a narrow bridge, paths, woods, roads, hills, you name it)

welcome to our ST favorite doc!

are you doing the race again this year? I know there were some problems with the swim and "weeds" last year that Chip says will be fixed this year, what about creatures??? is this water full of weird live animals that might scare me?

that is the problem i have with races, what i consider FLAT being from Houston is not what someone who rides in "hills" considers flat. flat to them is no MOUNTAINS. my training is 100% at sea level without a hint of elevation. that puts me at a disadvantage in a really hilly race when i have not been able to train under those circumstances.

if YOU think the run was hilly it must be. you are from Louisville area right? and i hear that is real hilly to our standards here.

No, I'm in the Cincy area (even hillier)!

Yes, the swim start was a huge CF. I had weird green stuff all over. No creatures though that I could find ;-)

The bike really is easy. Now, if you want to test yourself on a tough course, come and do the TripleT. That is about as hard as it gets.

I live in chicago which is incredibly flat and I can say that the bike course is not what you would call hilly. While there a few hills that will have you switch gears on the bike, the bike course is relatively flat and easy. Now the run course, it is hilly, very hilly, especially if you are coming from some place flat. The swim last year was crazy weedy and no one knew where they were supposed to be too start but that is all supposed to be fixed this year. I didn't notice any creatures (there aren't a lot of creatures in water in the midwest). The race was a lot of fun and you'll meet great people from slowtwitch. Make the trip.
