My wife has a little problem!
This is my first post in "The Womens" forum, but what better place, right? My wife has given birth to our two kids via natural childbirth. Since then, she has the issue of peeing accidentally when sneezing, running, basically anything that "jolts" her body. Any tips on what she can do for this? Her OBGYN mentioned a surgical procedure for this, but anyone know of another option?

Thanks in advance!

I have several friends that have this problem. The only thing I know is the obvious: make sure she is doing TONS of Kegal exercises (she should know what they are; if you don't do a search on google).

I had to have 2 c-sections so I was a lucky one who didn't have to deal with all of the damage of natural child-birth.

Best of luck.
Hey...does your wife know you are posting this? LOL

Ha, ha. Yeah, she asked me to post this. She knows about Kegals, but she says that her OB and Oprah along with a guest on her show (yeah, I know!) say that doesn't help this issue.

Yep, Kegals. And she can even take it a step further and get vaginal cones, these little weights for strenghening those muscles. I haven't tried them, but I hear they have other added benefits ;)

wear padded bike shorts on the long runs. seriously. and keep some of those baby wipes and a change of clothes in the car. really, there's not much to be done except laugh about it and carry on, imho.

I had three kids in three and a half years. I had that problem early on as well. Good thing I have a great sense of humor. It finally resolved itself. I'm sorry I can't remember when as my youngest is 13 now. After she was born was when I started to run and lift weights. I always wore black!!! Maybe the running and core work helped.

People are right on the money about the cones and exercises but she may also want to check out a physical therapist certified in women's health. They deal with this sort of issue everyday.

x2 with PT. There are specialists in women's health in PT that do pelvic floor PT. I am in NY and my former boss works with patients like your wife. Go to http://www.apta.org and select the "find a PT" link and you can search for a women's health PT in your area.

Find a Physical Therapist that deals in women's health. My sister is one and she is able to help women's with this problem.

Unfortunately, I know WAY too much about this. Just had my first baby in December and it's actually stopping me from training & racing as much as I'd like (I have issues with the up & down of running). I got a "prescription" from my OB to see a PT for this. My OB highly suggested this before considering surgery.

The routine includes kegels but also correctly engaging the other core muscles and breathing in a way that helps you sustain those contractions. Also, they ensure that you're doing the kegels correctly. The good news is that it's helping; the bad news is I've already been at this for about 3 months and they are guessing 6-12 more months before I can run without issues.

This seems to be very common, but not really talked about. Feel free to PM me for more info.
