Laser Hair Removal
Hi:

Has anybody undergone laser hair removal? I'm contemplating the procedure, but am wondering if the area is sore after the treatment and what it feels like when you're riding a bike shortly after a session. I'm training for my third IM next year and based on the information (a session every eight weeks), I would not want the procedure to affect my training.

I appreciate any input on this, and also if anybody has an opinion on which clinic/med spa to go with.

Thank you!

Joanna

I have been getting laser hair removal for 6 months. It generally leaves your skin red and irritated for a few hours after the procedure. The clinic that I go to gives you aloe vera gel to use on the area. I have avoided open water swimming in the ocean after treatment. I have had no problems with cycling, but I would definitely use chamois cream in the area. Maybe do a short ride after the treatment to see how your body reacts as opposed to your long ride for the week. This may be more info that you are interested in, but laser hair removal has definitely helped eliminate saddle sore issues. I had lots of problems with saddle sores but since laser hair removal no problems. Also, make sure you pick a reputable clinic. Ask your friends if they can recommend a clinic. I was surprised how many of my friends get laser treatment. Most clinics will give you a test treatment to determine how your body reacts and what level to set the laser. Hope this is helpful.

I can't remember how much actual information there is about laser specifically in this thread (and I didn't read through it again), but you might find some good info in it http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...tring=laser;#1890701

I have both done it and perform it on others. I did my lower legs and armpits years ago, along with part of bikini. biking has made me do the bikini area much higher up.

It leaves redness for about half the time of waxing.

I am much happier on my bike now ;)

Thank you for the responses. I will be sure to ask around for recommendations on clinics. I've been lucky in that I really don't have a problem with saddle sores, but I am really tired of shaving and the nicks that occur on occasion.
