That was interesting. I have never done a women's only tri, and have usually shied away from this kind of thing. But I wanted to get in one more sprint before the Apple Olympic in Mid August, and this fit the bill. The race itself was well organized and had all sorts of women participating including a large number of whom I expect would never sign up for a mixed race.
My BF was kinda cheesed about the women-only thing; his point being that tri #s for women have dramatically improved over the last decade (which is true) and that if there had been a men's only race, well... there would have been cries of discrimination. I recall the days of 80/20 splits between the genders, when the machismo at races was over the top. But that was a long time ago (or so it feels, I started racing almost a decade ago, so it feels like a long time...) and I don't notice that same vibe at races anymore. Then again, I've always been a tomboy and not afraid of guys. Maybe it's me, maybe not.
My Q to my cohorts here: Are women's only tri's still relevant?
