I had a rough week. Things at school are a mess. It's nothing of my doing - it's a big faculty problem and I am caught in the blast zone. I am extraordinarily stressed and anxious, so my goals this week are to implement healthy coping skills. These are
- journal at least 10 min a day
- sew (creating projects are good stress relief)

I also reached out to my former advisor to ask "what on earth do I do here" - she has been aware of the situation (it's been ongoing since Feb) but I get anxious asking for help because I feel like I need so much of it :-( and I feel like I am being a pest. At the same time, I don't know where else to turn.

Sports... biked 3x (40 mi + 2 x 6 mi commute), ran even though my achilles has been sore (which is not a good idea but I've been so stressed) 43 mi total, swam 8300 yds (four swims).

Goal this week:
1. Take care of self. Cope in healthy ways, not bingeing.
2. Swim or do other stuff and way way way less running.

Dissertation prospectus is due Friday, and I have a midterm, in the midst of everything else...

Collateral damage sucks. Is there any kind of resolution on the horizon?

My week was okay besides feeling awful (tired, sick - but with no real symptoms). Ran the 10km on Sunday. It was okay considering my training & how I was feeling. Kind of fell apart in the middle - slightly bored & lacking some mental toughness. Time was 1:06, so still a far cry from my goal of a sub-1hr race. But a PR over the only other 10km I've done, so there is that.

Not sure about this week - my son started soccer, so that takes up Wed & I need to do some yard/home stuff. Planning on playing it by ear. I would really like to ride my bike more, but I think that's only going to happen if I start bike commuting. Being responsible for daycare drop off/pick up makes it more logistically challenging (we do have a chariot - it's just the timing of it all), but I'm hoping I can fit it in a couple days per week.

Maybe - things could get much better Wednesday, or they could also get a lot worse.

Congrats on your PR! You can get sub 1 hr, I know it.

How's the dog? Didn't you get a new dog?

oh I do hope things look up for you. Soon.

My week was OK. Got in 2 swims for a total of 8100 yds and two bike rides (sad face).
I wanted to bike more than I did, but work and rain and other stuff got in the way. Had a good weekend in that I saw my sister and her boyfriend, my parents, and my cousin.

My dog had fun running around with my sister and cousin's dogs but today he is a bit down and doesn't have the appetite he's had because of the prednisone. He didn't eat all his breakfast today and the husband said he didn't have much appetite when he got home from work. (In case anyone forgot, my dog has lymphoma) I just hope this isn't his final downward slide.

Sunday afternoon I also ran for the first time since the marathon. No garmin, no keeping track of time. I got caught in the rain, a couple of downpours. At first when it started I was of course as far from my house as could be, but once I was soaked and it was a warm rain, I started to have fun with it... splashing in puddles and laughing about it.
The run felt slow and clunky.

YES - Lucy is great!!! Part of the reason why I'm liking running is I can get her & I exercised at the same time. She is pretty playful and a tired dog is a good dog. :P She's really settling in at our house. Much more outgoing with other dogs on walks, and WAY better with people coming over, although she still barks/growls when people first get to the house. I think she'd be great off-leash mountain biking, we just haven't been out yet.

I hate getting wet, but once I'm wet & it can't get any worse I tend to just enjoy it (as long as I'm not freezing). Sometimes it's just good to play.

Sorry about your pooch. It's so hard to wonder if every little thing is temporary or part of the down swing. <<hugs>>

The pooch did perk up last night, and was more of his "new normal" self this morning. Whew. He must have been worn out from playing with my sister's VERY active Weimys.

glad to hear you had a fun run - sometimes we forget about the joy of just being out there. :-)

Last week:
- Continue being positive (it helps me make better food choices too!) Being happy leads to success, not the other way around! DONE even with all the cr*p going on at work
- Run 4x (if with H, then only 30' EZ) FAIL only ran 3x and kinda felt yuck
- Football 2x DONE and it took a lot out of me on Sat
- Ride 3x DONE
- Hit that ToDo list hard! Small-d done. we got a lot done but there's still so much to do!

I'm still feeling crappy after that methocholine challenge tests from almost 2 weeks ago. I see the specialist this morning so let's see what he says. I'm also offsite doing master black belt work which is a nice break from the depressing atmosphere at work. It's a long weekend this weekend too and I'm really looking forward to at least ONE day of riding. :-)

This week:
- Run 4x
- Ride once (either MTB or long [4+hr] road ride)
- Football once (due to long weekend)
- Powerwash & sand & paint deck (ugh)

Glad to hear he is doing better!

Last week was okay except I didn't meet any of my goals because I landed up having two days completely off working out. I'm really struggling with motivation recently, started with the running after my sucky race and has now seemed to spread to everything else. I did get an outdoor ride in with the other half and that was fun. Plenty more of that to come as we are headed to the Golden Triangle this weekend. After that we are away for a week or so for a friend's wedding and I will get to see my childhood best friend and some of her family and my mom and grandmother so I'm hoping that the change of scenery will be helpful! Once we get back I'll be about 8.5 weeks away from my first 70.3 so I may just be a quaking mess of nerves.

Last week's goals:
Swim x 3: win with 4
Bike x 2: win
Run x 6: win
Core/strength x 4: win

Wanted at least 65km of running last week - got 66.7, so slightly over-achieved evil. Did 24k on Saturday as my final long run before the 50k on the 23rd, and if I really wanted something to kill any confidence, that would be it. The weather suddenly snapped hot so I was running in full sun at 29c/84f with 90% humidity, and only made it 45mins before I had to take a walk break on a totally flat trail. By the end I was running to the next kilometer marker and then walking for 2mins to try to get my heart rate under control. That's my last 2 long runs in a row that have been really disheartening, and I'm basically feeling lucky that the course cutoff for the 50k isn't until the 14hr mark (I've done a 50k previously in just over 6hrs).

Hang in there, tigerchik. Hope you get some good news soon!

My sympathy, determination - my oldest kitty is on the decline and I know exactly what you mean about hoping this isn't the end...while also trying to be sure I don't keep her hanging on in pain just for my benefit. She's 15: I got her with my ex 2 years before I even met my husband, and she's been through a whole lot with me. Even knowing that it's coming I know I'm going to be inconsolable when it comes time for her to go.

This week's goals:
Swim x 2
Bike x 1
Run x 4
Core/strength x 4

Going backpacking for the long weekend! So much stoke, but so much to get packed up beforehand since we're leaving straight from work on Friday.

Sch,
Get any swimming in? ;-)

I'm struggling with motivation as well. It's hard to stick to a plan when I'm unable to race. :-(

I did actually! Guppy 1/1 beefed up to make it 1600 (did 6x100 instead of 3) and 1/2 altered to 6 x 150 to make it 1900. But I haven't been swimming since...

Thanks. I've been thinking about the motivation issue: would something like "if I do all 10 weeks of guppy I'll buy myself a fun training swimsuit/funky swimcap/nice hair conditioner" work for you? Or a blog I read was talking about how instead of setting long term goals (bunch of reasons why she couldn't), she'd approach the week with goals for just that week so you try and shift the focus from a result to a process.

Update: Well, I met with the specialist and I officially have asthma. Yeah at 42. WTF eh. Turns out it's all due to pollution - the pollutants inflames my airways, which causes fluid/sputum to build up and not get out, which causes breathlessness. Awesome possum. So I have a fancy new puffer for a 4 month trial to try and get the gunk OUT of my lungs. He said my volume drop during that challenge test was "very dramatic" - I apparently dropped a full litre of capacity - women typically have just over 4L of total lung volume to start with - so yeah I guess that is dramatic. He said that he expects major improvements with the drugs to help clear the gunk out, but that unless I reduce my exposure to pollution/pollutants, it will never resolve itself. He also said that if I had let it go a few more years, that I'd have ended up with a bunch of scar tissue in my airways, which drugs can't fix/address. Which would have been full-blown COPD. So glad I didn't wait any longer - I guess.

Just means even more reason to move out of the city. And I won't be going to any more factories in China or Mexico anymore.... which is fine by me :-)
