Goals had been 2-3 swims, 4-5 rides, and a day off from running. Met them :-) eating was fine except last night. I am house sitting and one of the three cats is AWOL. I did a little stress eating - like 600 calories' worth of candy (which I had bought for my office candy jar; you get more visitors when you have a candy/chocolate bowl!) and 2 pieces of toast. At least that's not too horrible; I'm not stressing over it.

M - 6.5 mi run + 30 mi bike + 45 min. yoga
T - 9 mi run + 3000 yd swim + 1 hr yoga
W - 9 mi run + 1200 yd swim
Th - 6.2 mi run + 3 mi bike + 1000 yd swim
F - 9 mi run + 25 mi bike
S - 25 mi bike + 8.2 mi run + 2500 yd swim
S - 50 mi bike

Totals: 7.7k swim, 133 mi bike, 48 mi run

Can't think about goals for this week right now as I am too stressed over finding the missing cat :-( they're indoor cats and I am POSITIVE he didn't get out, so he has to be here somewhere! But is not coming out to the treat jar being shaken etc :-(

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

I took advantage of the long weekend and got in two longer rides with the husband. It was AWESOME.
6 runs, 40 mi total
4 bikes, ~125 mi total
1 swim, 1600m

I wish I'd swam longer, but I was really tired that day. I got up early and ran, and then we did some work on our bathroom renovation.

Goals this week: maintain run mileage
Wed: 10mi TT bike

Survive the work week again.

Have job interview on Friday.
8 weeks left of my residency.

Good luck in your interview!

Hang in there. Cat might just be angry about the normal routine being out of whack. If it didn't get out, it'll come back around when hungry enough. One of my dogs is a contortionist & gets into the WEIRDEST spots to nap & is FAMOUS for being locked in random rooms/spots for LONG times because she just gets comfy & doesn't make a noise. Idiot dog. She's spent far, far too long locked in spare bedrooms before. I'll be thinking happy thoughts for you!!!

After a long weekend of relaxing & playing down south, four days of nothing but eating & drinking - being in the rain all four days - I'm STOKED to get back in the pool today (though not stoked enough to get up for morining practice, apparently). Probably going to bail a little early on work to go stare at the black line outside. I'll even deal with the urchins at the Y to get some pool time in.

Literally just realized that I've got some open water racing coming up this weekend (back-to-back 5k-3k-1k) in Georgia....so I'll be swimming pretty hard the first half of this week in prep for that. Might take a group ride on Thursday evening, who knows.

TC, I hope kitty comes out of hiding. My cat can find the darnedest places to hide inside. Just when we're convinced she has escaped, she'll show up.

If you think kitty got out, put the litter box outside--the smell will help it find the way home; and call kitty at night, walking the perimeter of the property--that's when kitty will feel safest to move about. Experience from decades of cat companionship.

Got my 3 swims in but fell short of my swim distance goal; 3 bikes (woo whoo!); and 21 miles walking.

This week I start to mix up some jogging with the walking. Goal is 12k swim; 4 bikes; 20+ miles walk/jog.

No coasting in running and no crying in baseball

I had a good week overall, managed my 4 runs, and 11 rides - 3 of which were MTB rides. Yeehaw! Runs still feel sluggish but I've never been good at running in the heat and it's kinda warm now. So just taking it easy.

This week:
- Run 4x
- Ride 3x
- Appointment with GI specialist about my hernia (finally) and general digestive woes
- Watch the carb intake including beer - been eating way too many carbs and my belly shows it
- Drink more water (always a challenge I tend to camel up)

Upped my consistency = mega victory.

Sunday: 23 mi charity bike ride - PR for distance. Very flat, but some roads SUCKED and there were WAY too many stoplights. All together, victory.
Monday: Rested mah legs
Tuesday: Recovery bike ride (easy 30 min - painful)
Wednesday: Masters swim class :D FINALLY!
Thursday: 5k race - bonked :( we didn't start until 10am and it was 85 degrees. Ew.
Fri-Sat: Rest - combined efforts of this week had me sore and groaning.
Sun: Hill walk/jog on treadmill for 30 min. Actually helped loosen up the hip pain.

So 2.5/3 on my assigned work, which is a huge improvement for me. Unfortunately, I'll have a gap this weekend (and non-regrettable lapse in diet) while up in Napa for my fiance's Vineman race. It's his birthday so some French food and wine will be consumed :D

I was really frustrated with that 5k, but my first mile was SUPER fast, so it's nice to confirm I can, in fact, run faster. I just need to handle heat better (nutrition/hydration) and work on my distance.

I tend to sweat up a storm on the treadmill no matter what the weather outside.

What summer school subjects are you teaching?

I'm teaching Algebra 1B, we have 2 3-week sessions, the first ends this week, second starts on monday, corresponding to 1st and 2nd semester. I was told last week that I would have a merged Algebra 1A and 1B class for the next session due to low enrollment in the 1A class, so that should be interesting.

Noob here, but I'll bite -
After 2 solid weeks off of training, due to a knee injury (from bike), (following a week off due to an elbow injury (from bike)) I went for a 2.5 mi jog.
HR be dammed, I was so thrilled to be outside and exercising.
Training for my first HIM in Sep, Coach tells this ADDer to "take it easy" this week - whatever that means ;)
This week: 2 easy bike rides, an easy swim and an easy run.
Can't wait.

good news/bad news/good news

Finished my first HIM over the weekend. Blazing hot, v challenging course -- Sussex Middle Distance, in William the Conquerer land. 80 racers, 10 womens -- the lady olympians chatting to my left before the swim giving some indication of the caliber of the field.

Finished second to last, in a 7 hour ++ time. Had so much unaccustomed sugar my guts are still rebelling two days later. Had to walk much of the run, so i won't really count this one as a proper finish, but have another in 10 weeks so optimistic of better result . . .

Nonetheless, first in age group. Guess why :>

I seriously miss California. The weather here sucks. When I could've had four days of riding it rained 3 1/2 of them, at times torrentially. So I ate and drank and got further out of shape. I did get to help a friend celebrate his birthday so that was good. And we did get reservations to the hottest restaurant in town so Sunday night was a fantastic meal.

Sending sunshine and motivation from CA!!!!! Direct to you from San Jose :)

Hang in there - even just a walk on a treadmill can help kickstart a trend. Icky weather can get to you - when I worked up in Seattle, I had to buy a "happy light" to put at my work desk so I didn't go bonkers from it being dark and miserable for weeks on end.

Back from 9 days of motorcycle touring. I did run 3 x while we were on the road, but when I was near water it was freaking cold (Lake Superior) and when it was hot as balls I couldn't find a lake to jump in.

This week's goals:
- run x 5
- bike x 2
- swim x 4
- core/strength x 3

Cheers!

I hear you there. I can definitely say this crap is for the birds & it's NOT the norm. What we're getting this week is much closer to the norm, unfortunately. THIS is the crap that makes me miss anywhere that isn't this hot & muggy. The water temps are going to start rocketing up this week & I'll reach miserable by the end of the weekend.

I even went south for the holiday to the beach to get away & it rained the ENTIRE time we were there. Went for two soggy kayak paddles of about 1.5-2hr each & that was all I could muster.

Which restaurant?

Ha! That is what everyone says. Like they said the winter wasn't usually like it was. Right.

7/4: the new Jack's BBQ on Charlotte (about 16th)
7/5: the Saucer for my friend's BD then he wanted to walk down to lower Broad and we went to the Trailer Park and then to BBKings
7/6: didn't go out
7/7: HUSK!!! Fabulous drink list (I had gin with arugula and lime and something - healthy!!). We spilt a bunch of appetizers instead of getting a main. They were all very very good. My friend had dessert (key lime creme) and I had a "palate cleansing whisky". We were there about 2+ hours all told.

Been thinking I might have to start swimming again. "Ran" for 90 seconds today on the treadmill with no knee or hip pain. Maybe moving to a house with stairs is helping?

I'm thinking of signing up for this: http://team-magic.com/...ontents/courseDetail

Fair on the weather. I haven't been here long enough myself to really compare against anything but last year....but the spring was more rainy than this year & the summer was much drier than this has been. The winters were fairly comparable from what I remember...so I'm not sure what to say there...except maybe since I came from Indiana/Cleveland I think this is totally reasonable. The people are IDIOTS, but the weather itself is just kinda meh.

SO jealous on the food. I'm going out somewhere tonight, we're not sure where yet. If it's anything worthwhile I'll let you know. You seem to have MUCH more the dish than I do. I can say that I'm a Pharmacy (East Nashville) fan, a real bier garden!

I spend a lot of time around Maryland Farms' Y so I see all the girls getting ready for that as summer goes on. Looks to be fun & the bike course would be fun. I remember hearing about a super low-key vibe & tons of girl fun from last year. I'm debating on heading out to Fall Creek Falls in August. Not positive, I may just keep my head down in the pool since I haven't been running...at all.

If you consider swim groups & want to take a look at Excel, you're more than welcome anytime. If you wanna ease back into it I suppose that's good too. And i'm SURE the stairs are helping, it's unavoidable strengthening.

OK, I signed up. Now to get in the pool. I may try to do the Excel training in the fall (but of course I will be traveling again!) once I get some meters in me arms!

I've yet to get to Pharmacy! I hear it's great. I'm a foodie, so hitting all the good restaurants is fun. One of my faves right now is Edley's BBQ (EastN). And I really want to get the Taco Mamacita.

I'm glad the cat came back! I cat-sat for my sister and her husband once, and they had the meanest, weirdest cat ever. I was given detailed instructions by my brother-in-law, who was the only person the cat tolerated, to take Toby outside every day for a while (supervised play time) and that he would come in for dinner. Of course, he didn't want to come in and hissed at me if I got too close. I thought he'd never go in, but after a few long hours he must have gotten hungry, so he meandered to the door and complained when he had to wait 20 seconds for me to let him in.

Anyway, things are improving workout-wise. I started physical therapy and am thrilled to feel as if I'm doing something to help the healing process and hopefully get rid of the headaches. I joined the "Guppies Swim Challenge" and am trying to swim enough to keep tigerchick from wiping out all of my "Guppy units." I still can't breathe on the left very well due to limited range of motion, but it's getting better. I've been doing some "return to running" workouts and graduated to 2 consecutive miles last night, then a walk break and another mile, then a break and 1/2 mile. I went too hard on the first 2 and finished with a throbbing headache, but it was worth it. My bike is supposed to be ready later this week and I'll probably get it on Saturday, along with a new helmet. I don't think my neck can handle the aero position for too long yet, but I'm really anxious to get that first post-crash ride in. I might go to a park where there is very little car traffic. I'm curious to see how I react - I love my bike and don't want to ride scared all the time.

Now if I can just get the insurance company to pay for my bike and helmet up front - they won't settle on the medical until I'm done with treatments, so those bills have added up fast, over $1000 so far out of pocket. My bike and helmet will be another $850 or so, it would be nice if I didn't have to fork it over and then wait to be reimbursed.
