Hope everyone had a good Easter too (if you celebrate it).

My goals were 2/2/5. I had 4/1/7. Eating - went pretty well except for yesterday - 6/7 there. Calendar's looking alright I guess.
I had a very happily busy week overall - am recertified in lifeguarding thanks to a two day "crash course;" spent some time with two of my professors' kids (it was April vacation week - I played board games with them and took them swimming, both of which were loads of fun), and exhibited my thesis work at the Grad Expo for two days.

M - 9.5 mi run, 1000 yd swim
T- 1:15 bike, 6.5 mi run, 1000 yd swim
W - 6.6 mi run
T - 8.5 mi run
F - 9 mi run, 2500 yd swim
S - 5 mi run, 2700 yd swim
S - 11.5 mi run

Slept in on Wed. so no second workout, Thursday I think I was just cranky, and yesterday I was back to being exhausted.

Goals for this week - 4/2/5. Shoulder and hip exercises 3x.

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

Last week:
- Run 5x => DONE and felt great!
- Ride 2x (yes) => DONE and a bit rough on the climbing, but getting better.

This week:
- BMO 1/2 marathon on Sunday -> this will likely turn into the BMO 8k ;-) I just don't think my shoulder is ready for 1h45 of pavement pounding...
- Run 4x prior (mostly easy with strides)
- Ride 2x.

last week`s goals:
- 4 runs: WIN with 5, despite taking an unanticipated night off.
- 3 bike incl. getting my mountain bike out for the first time since being re-cabled: WIN with 4, 2hrs of which was single track on the mtb!
- 3 swims: WIN despite the pool being closed sunday - made it saturday afternoon instead. had a sudden ~10sec/100m drop in times, so i'm trying like hell to hang onto the new technique..
- 5 core/strength incl. 1 full workout: WIN/FAIL - no full workout.

this week's goals:
- 4 runs including waterloo marathon sunday
- 1 bike
- 3 swims (short - just trying to keep my feel for the water)
- 5 core/strength including foam rolling

had an awesome long weekend (rode all 4 of my bikes!) - just trying to avoid taper crazies now!

cheers!

23 1/2 hours training last week and same for this, then it's taper time for my first 70.3.

Training time would be a lot lower but I'm slow as s***ugar on the bike.

No coasting in running and no crying in baseball

Hey ladies!

I met most of my goals last week and am enjoying more consistency in my training since moving to Austin. I know that will change when I start my job though so I'm enjoying it while I can. The running is coming along nicely as my body re-adjusts to the pounding and my legs remember what it feels like to turn over quicker.

Monday: 2200 meter swim (including drills); 3.3 mile run

Tuesday: 30+ mile bike on hills

Wednesday: 2000 meter swim, 3.4 mile run

Thursday: 30+ mile bike, relatively flat

Friday: 2000 meter swim, 3.5 mile run

Saturday: 30+ mile bike on hills (and a wicked head-wind the whole way back)

Sunday: 7+ mile run

Fail: No yoga or strength training. I need to especially work on my shin strengthening exercises. Has anyone experienced unilateral shin splints after returning to running post-injury? Any recommendations for nipping it in the bud? Exercises? Stretching? Did ART help at all?

Good luck to all those racing this weekend!

Tigerchik- What are you studying at university?
AP- Glad the shoulder is feeling better
Mistressk- Is it a marathon you're tapering for? Good luck!

Hello to all who comes after me...

I'm a "teaching mathematics" grad student - Masters of Science in teaching mathematics.

Re: shin splints - stretch your calves and your anterior tibialis muscles. Anterior tib stretch is to "sit on your knees" - put a pillow between butt and heels if you have knee problems. Make sure you are not in worn out shoes. Finally, ice shins post exercise.

Nice balance of sbr in you week.

thanks tigerchik :)

Tri_Dietitian, yep - waterloo marathon. my first, so the goal is just to finish strong and enjoy it. there are actually 5 bagpipers on the course, which runs through mennonite country - lots of farm fields, a sugarbush, and even a wooden covered bridge :)

cheers!

Thanks! Those are mostly the stretches I was thinking and I have a few strengthening ones that I found too. And as you know, grad school is invaluable when looking for a job. It not only means more $$ for you, but you will be able to decide between jobs as opposed to settling on the first offer. Good luck with your studies!

Oh, well a first marathon deserves a big "HAVE FUN" because that's what it's all about! And it ain't a marathon without a wooden bridge and bagpipes, I say ;)
