Gift for the BF
Okay, the BF has only known me when I've been training for an IM. He's been great, going along with me on long rides and long runs and going home when I told him to (when the ride or run was nearly disastrous and I was miserable and just wanted to wallow in my misery). he's also worked on my bike, packed and unpacked my bike a few times (with out me asking...just does it), schlepped my friends all over the big island so they could cheer for me while he cheered for me too. he made sure I had beer at the finish line and kitkat bars and malasadas the next morning. He's watched my bike and clothes while I did ocean races and bought me many jamba juices after long runs.

Soo.... I need a gift for him. I've already got a night out to Mortons and tickets to Cirque de Soleil planned. But I did learn from the carrot vs chocolate cake thing in Kona, these are things I want to do and have been looking forward to for a long time. I need another gift for him.

The problem is, he's got everything. he is interested in getting into tris, he a great cyclist and a pretty damn good runner for just starting to run this year. I was thinking of paying for some swimming lessons for him. I don't think he'll really be interested in doing a tri, until he thinks he's a decent swimmer, and this winter is probably a good time for him to start swimming, so he can do a couple sprint tris next spring.

What do you gals (and guys) think?

If you lived in Kona I'd say give him some swim time with Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen.

I think you should just go with carrot cake.

I've been sitting here almost since you posted trying to think of something, but I've got nothin. Well... I thought of one thing, but I don't think I'll be posting it publicly just in case lol.

I think he likes chocolate cake more! But there is a whole carrot cake on my counter just in case he wants some this weekend.

Got your PM. You crack me up! But yeah, I'm trying to be the world's best girlfriend, since you guys named him the world's best boyfriend (which he probably is)

okay. i've never posted before, but maggs, you've GOT to do something romantic. chances are he has missed out on some "action" with a tired GF. i say, go big and get a surprise hotel for a night and make it all about him. go early and set up some champagne (or beer:) ) and strawberries (or bar snacks :)).....and spend some quality time together. french maid outfit optional.

This weekend is pretty much just us doing nothing...at his suggestion and I quickly agreed....well, except for his mountain bike race, and next weekend we are going to Maui for 3 nights. And I do have plans for a nice romantic trip to Kauai later this year, but our weekend schedule is really pretty full until the end of the year. But I do need to focus some on him, okay a lot on him.

Beth, be careful, once you start posting here you are one step closer to doing an Ironman :-)

Whoa... I never named him World's Best Boyfriend. That was all Von. I didn't want to go around saying things like that after our little talk lol. But good on you for having the carrot cake available at all times. This, and NOT tofu, is what should be going on!!

Wait a minute (and here I am totally hijacking the thread)... why haven't you been posting here? Why have I never found your blog before? What the heck is going on! Just what I needed... another person to blog stalk. And I had JUST cut my list down again!

Perfect...haha!

We'll certainly cheer for him! Maybe we'll even have a beer for him at the finish line...if I don't drink all of them first!

I'm a guy and I feel totally gay for posting this (shutup, Katy!) but I wouldn't mind a spa treatment like you girls would like. It takes a special kind of man to appreciate something like that but hey, it's a shot. Or another way to treat him is for you to go to get a certain spa treatment (*cough*brazilian*cough*) which he might like as well.

Funny. 2 other women said she should go "romantic". *eye roll*

guys don't want: neck ties, tickets to plays, spa treatments, blah blah blah.

We want something fun. And what's more fun than being surprised by your GF in a sexy getup? If he's not into the maid costume, i'm sure mags can come up with something more in line with his tastes.

I guarantee he'll have fonder memories of this birthday then the one where he got a Best Buy gift card.

Hey, I wouldn't mind a day relaxing. I have a lot on my mind and even though I pretend to be a manly man, I like to be pampered.

Oh, here is something. Does the BF like cars? If so, get him some professional driving lessons. I know that a lot of race tracks around the US have racing camps where you get to drive stock cars around a track for a weekend. Something like that won't be forgotten.

That's a pretty good idea. No tracks here, but we are heading to vegas in a few weeks and they have a track there.

is this post about what HE would like or what SHE would like HE to like? If he is not expressing interest in tris and she is considering to get him swimming lessons I am really not sure who the present would be for... if I ran a quick poll among the guys I know I am sure the majority would pick that outfit vs a present for something they don't care about.

If you are in a serious relationship with somebody it shouldn't be that hard to figure out a present for an internet-savy person; figure out his #1 hobby (whatever it is), go on a related forum, ask a question about it, answer when people will ask for details (ok, you want to get him a bike, he already has 5, exactly which bikes does he have? hmmm, I guess he doesn't have, say, a lightweight xc bike, what about this, ...).

it also depends from your budget, car lessons on a track don't come cheap usually (and yes, it is a pretty cool present for sure)

Totally driving lessons or he can take an intro to flying or helicoptering lesson. My husband did the flying one behind my back because he knows I hate to fly :-)

The whole french maid outfit is old. He can get nooky anytime now that you aren't so tired :-) Think about doing something that is purely for him. Even if it is something you don't plan on doing with him, such as the flying lessons.

I would say couples massage--time together, he gets to relax and get a massage and you get a massage.

And I don't think the French Maid outfit or some other fun costume is such a bad idea.
