Hi! Congrats on your journey. Trying to conceive can be quite fun! Ovulation predictor kits indicate that she is about to ovulate based on her hormones. Sperm can live up to 5 days however it is best for the man to abstain until you get you get a positive result, then the fun can begin the next day. And you can have as much fun as you want after! A tip from me to you, your changes increase dramatically for every orgasm she has. :)

It also depends on the sex of the child you want. There's two "types" of sperm, the X and Y chromosome ones. To increase the chances of having a girl, and if you know her cycle well, then you should have intercourse just before she ovulates as the Y chromosome sperm swim faster and die sooner, whereas the X chromosome sperm swim slower but last longer. This isn't 100%, but is fairly accurate.....

We've used this method to try and have a girl and we did. We also know a lot of other people who have done this with great success.

Finally, talk to someone who knows about natural family planning (NFP), the method that you'd be looking at is the Serena method as it is pretty accurate. The one thing I will warn you about is that the people who generally practice NFP are religious, but that doesn't mean that they don't know what they're talking about (too often people are discounted as knowledgeable just because they have a faith).
