Commuter bike saddle?
Anyone have a really comfortable saddle on their non-padded-shorts-wearing bike? I used to have an old, hand-me-down Specialized BG mountain bike saddle that was pretty good - rarely any discomfort, even with jeans or a thong, but it died. The new Specialized BG saddles don't look like this old one and... they're $100. Seems like a lot for a commuter bike. (Though I *have* considered finally getting a Brooks saddle, which is also pricey.)

Thanks!

Go with the Brooks as it is the best to ride on. I have one on my commuter that I have been on for over four years without problems. It took maybe a total of 15 miles to break in and has held well without conditioning. I have worn wet tri shorts on it and have yet to rub saddle soap on it and it still looks new. It cost about $67 at BikeNashbar during an incredible sale. I bought a honey Brooks B-17 at REI for slightly less than $100 with a coupon.

I use a Terry Butterfly from 1997 or so. Never had any problems riding it without a chammy. The cromoly one is $77.

I put a faux sheep's wool cover over a cheapie saddle on my commuter beater bike. Works great. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/...ps+wool+saddle+cover

Looks kind of dorky but comfy as heck.

I've got a Serfas RX saddle. They're under $100, and they're super comfy without pads.

I never wear padded shorts with this particular saddle and I've done 30+ miles on my commuter.

No sores, no chafing.
