Best Women's Tri Shorts?
Question for the female triathletes out there. If you could own only one pair of tri shorts what brand and model would you choose. Why?

Comfy, flattering, cute, with just thin pad that does the job just fine for a 70.3.

Definitely Coeur (http://www.coeursports.com/collections/triathlon). Seamless chamois is amazing! Plus plenty of pockets, wider leg holes, comfortable waistband. Bought a pair at the beginning of this season after doing tri's for 10+ years and will never buy another brand again.

It really depends on the distance you are looking at but I have a few favorites: I did IM Lake Placid in Louis Garneau Custom Elite Power Tri Shorts (http://custom.louisgarneau.com/...amp;style_no=4E50422), SOAS also has great suits as does Betty Designs and I just bought a Coeur one but haven't tried it out yet. I have a Zoot one as well but I didn't seem to hold up as well (I think it was a low end version though).

Great information. What I really want to know is the "WHY" you like those shorts. Is it inseam length? Gripper vs no gripper on the legs? Compression? Low waist or higher fit?

Hi Chance,

From my quick research on you, it appears you are marketing triathlon clothing and want feedback?

If you want meaningful feedback, why don't you create some specific survey Qs about survey responders training habits, what they expect from clothing, how they use clothing, what specific features you are thinking about incorporating that women like, dislike. We would love to give feedback - but you may find our answers all over the place. What brand I prefer depends on fit (I can't stand low rise shorts, other women love them - might be an age thing) and how I intend to use them (training, short course, long course).

You know your target market - so come up with specific questions and we will happily oblige. Otherwise, I think the responses here are going to be very vague.

Just a suggestion.

I appreciate the suggestion. Having been a product manager for years I have been through the process many times. Currently I am just trying to get an idea of how women are thinking about their triathlon clothing in general. I am well aware of the great variation. Getting some initial feedback actually helps the developers of products come up more specific questions as well as determine what group they want to target with a product.

Current preference:
http://zootsports.com/...ltra-tri-6-short-s14

Why:
Fleece chamois
No seam down the center of the crotch
No leg band, no grippers and no "compression cuff" at the bottom of leg (sooo unflattering to inner thighs)
No string tie at the waist and very minimal elastic, lower rise
Quick drying
Legs don't ride up
Has pockets
Cut in XS is appropriately XS; there is not too much fabric in the belly or crotch

Primary negatives:
High cost
The chamois seam is slightly raised -- it chafes on the bikini line when wet for long distances (140.6)

Oooh. I'd like those for one extra reason... they are black in all the right places without being totally black. Nobody wants to see butt sweat on a lady, but having a drawer full of all black shorts isn't all that fun either.

I like those tri shorts because they have a low waist (more on my hips vice my waist/stomach area), they have a thin chafe free chamois, and they aren't see through or easily wear through. They also have a shorter leg length (I'm only 5'3") and I find that I've been leaning more towards the shorts without grippers on the legs or at least ones with less grip, particularly for long distance rides/races.

I'll chime in with the shorts I currently own and the positives and negatives of each. Note, I'm a size XL (5'9" and a size 12/14 pant):

1. Sugoi RS tris shorts--these are part of my tri club kit. They look nice on (one of my female tri friends actually told me that my butt looks smaller in them!), they have silicone leg grippers (which I'm totally okay with), and my legs don't look like sausages in them (that's a huge plus 1 for me). My current issue is that they don't work with my Adamo saddle. The stitching/seam on the chamois sits right on top of the edge of the Adamo. It's quite uncomfortable after about 25 miles. On a different saddle, though, I liked them a great deal. Moderate leg length.

2. DeSoto Carerra--these are currently in my rotation. I like the overall fit, no sausage legs, no leg gripper, but they stay perfectly in place. The chamois is felt, and like the Sugoi RS, it's just a smidge too narrow for my saddle. It doesn't rub like the Sugoi, but it's not the greatest. Leg length is a little shorter than the Sugoi, which I like.

3. DeSoto 400 mile shorts--I ADORE the chamois in these shorts, particularly for riding in an Adamo. There are no leg grippers, but the legs stay perfectly in place, and the fabric is very supportive. For some reason, though, the waist on the 400 mile shorts is MUCH tighter than the waistband on the DeSoto Carerras (and a MUCH higher waistband) I wear them, but I wish the waist were an inch or so bigger and didn't come as high). Long inseam.

4. Castelli Body Paint Donna--Love the fit. Has an unusual leg opening/gripper that is difficult to describe. It stays put, doesn't pinch, and doesn't create sausage legs. The chamois is wide enough that I don't have any weird rubbing on the edge of the saddle, but I'm not sure yet that I love the chamois. They're omfortable on and flattering (for a big thighed girl like me). As of today, this is the short that I'll probably pair with my tri kit for half iron distances. Medium inseam length.

I've heard rave reviews for the Coeur shorts. Everyone I've seen in them loves them. Their inventory right now, though, is quite limited and I can't find it in my size in black.

Hi. I'm with Coeur. I don't think we're supposed to do anything "sale related" here, so I hope it's ok if I say we've got inventory again. It sells quick. Darn it! sorry used the "s" word. http://www.coeursports.com/

Hi. It's me with Coeur again. Forgot to mention that, (by the way), we also like Betty Designs. Kristin is super cool. The most important thing is that you find a kit that works for you. We think that when you feel and look good, you're more likely to stay in the sport of Triathlon and make it lifestyle.

I've been wearing SOAS tri kits - I like the material, the length, the way it grips at the bottom without cutting off circulation, and it doesn't roll down.

Coeur shorts are great. even better is their customer service - when i contacted them about some weird discoloring on a brand new kit they sent me new product ASAP at no charge. i was floored and happily surprised. i'm a loyal customer now. when you're considering the WHY of product choice for consumers, i think how the producer interacts with their customers is really important, at least to me.

i don't like shorts. i wear bibs for IM and a trisuit for sprints. I fluctuate on teh HIM length, having worn both shorts and a trisuit. this year i'm going to try tribibs (desoto) and see. i only have desoto shorts and trisuit so i have no comparison and can't say i'm in love with them TBH. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Betty Design stuff because it is SO pretty but too expensive for me. ok, just looked at teh Coure page - love the designs but the colors (to me) are blah. but with the caveat that i would consider neon green, pink and orange a great combination. :) i love a TON of color. for shorts/bibs, i love the really wide gripper things that don't really have silicone but instead a wide band that is lovely. Primal, Verge and DeSoto all seem to do this well in their bibs. same for the waistband in a short but I tend not to wear anything around my waist as it creates gas and discomfort for me on longer events.

Thanks! And yes, those sold much faster than we expected. They are back in stock now http://www.coeursports.com/. Oh...and on a completely unrelated note, if you get a chance, we'd love for people to sign the 50 Women to Kona petition that is floating around online. I hope we're not getting to political but here are our thoughts on the topic. We'd love to see an equal number of Female Pros as Males at Ironman Hawaii.

LOVE the Coeur shorts!!! I would have to say the seamless chamois is the main reason but all the pockets and the fit and colors/patterns rock too!!!

I currently wear the Zoot 6 inch performance in a size medium, I am 5'7" 123 lbs, I would like to try the Ceour. Does anyone know if sizing is comparable to Zoot? In most athletic wear I vary between sm/med depending on brand. Thanks!

Not sure how Zoot fits but I wear a medium in Coeur shorts and at race weight last year I ran around 135-137 pounds. You are probably going to be a small. They are super good about returns, etc though!

Hi. I'm with Coeur and I hope it's ok if I jump in here. I'm pretty sure we're not supposed to do any "selling" on slowtwitch but I did want to say that we just added a sizing video to our website that might help. http://www.coeursports.com/pages/sizing

Great! And Kebby was talking about running a Valentine's promotion where the different words associated with the holiday would generate discounts. I'm not 100% sure exactly how this will work or if we'll promote it but words like Love, Coeur etc. will generate different amounts of discount at checkout. That was the idea anyway. http://www.coeursports.com/
