AndyPants at the Seattle Marathon?

Can't wait to hear about it! I don't know her last name so I can't search the results.

Hope you're enjoying a beer and burger, AP.

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine

There were several of us there today. I did the half. It was very painful and might have been a personal worst but I got it done. I wasn't really ready for it but the girls suckered me into signing up in a flurry of Facebook posts so I figured I'd run.

I'll let the others chime in on their results.

Well, the day didn't go as expected, but that's the nature of racing - anything can happen. I logged a new PW: 4:19. I was taking it easy and trucking along just fine until ~ mile 19/20, where the hills start - then it's a lot of up and down and right and left, it's really hard to get in a rhythm. I just didn't have the right training for that course. :-(

So, after a fantastic visit with the PNW wommens, I chalk it up "learning something new". I am already scouring the calendars for another marathon (Jan/Feb/Mar), will aim for my 200mi in December again, a low-key 50k trail run on new year's day, and then some serious planning+training for Comrades.

AP

PS: the beer was good albeit expensive - we exceeded our import exemption at the border and got dinged for big duties & taxes - booourns.

The Carlsbad Marathon in So Cal is Jan 27th. I'll be there :-)

Yeah, the hills always get people on Seattle. Brutal timing.

NP, funny thing is I knew the hills were coming, and I always tried to make my long runs hilly, but apparently not hilly enough ;-)

I see your trials and tribulations didn't hold you back from getting the running/drinking challenge started up for December! Hope your next race goes better.

A little later than you're looking, but it checks all the boxes (at least for yours truly)... http://www.squamish50.com/

Waaaay too late. Will do the Fat Ass 50k again. Cold, wet, windy (usually). But great when it's done.

That race has 3 major problems:

1) It's entirely too long
2) The weather typically sucks
3) It's the best ski day of the year

Sounds perfect for a masochist like you though! :p

Chuckanut 50k! It's perfect for you. Rough course so you'll have to put in some hilly trail miles in training, in Bellingham so very close, and March 16th. Always sells out super fast so when reg opens you need to sign up right away.

It was my first ultra and the first race I ever cried like a baby. Out loud. And I'd already done an Ironman.

You'll love it.

It looks like it has gone to lottery now since it sells out so fast. Last year it was sold out in an hour. Sign up is on Jan 4th.

I will strongly disagree on point #3 - too many PEOPLE on the hills. Jan 7th is a *much* better day ;-)

Well, if you're up for heading out to the east coast, there is a great little marathon usually held the second weekend in March: Lower Potomac River Marathon in Piney Point, MD. Capped at 200 hundred runners, race fee is around $50. Great eats and shower facilities at the race start/finish and it often attracts marathon greats. Flat fast course that can sometimes be a bit windy.

Perhaps I should have been more clear - I was specifically referring to New Year's Day in Whistler... :D

If you're looking for more details on the Chuckanut, Adam Campbell wrote a bit about it in a few places after his win this past year...

Dude, I haven't been to Whistler since the last time we rode from there to Lillooet. Still prefer a mid-week day when kids are in school - I like my space & silence!!! (so I can hear myself going just a bit crazier)

That's the beauty of WB on NYD - there's probably fewer than 500 people spread out over both mountains...

Everyone else gets up and noon, shakes it off and heads home. :D
