Notice: You can't teach your body to burn more fat

What you can do is to manipulate diet in order to burn a greater/smaller percentage of fat at all exercise intensities.

Why not? Care to elaborate or do I have to pay for that?

at all intensities? no. diet won't manipulate the percentage of fat used at high intensity, because we know fat isn't used at high intensity. the only thing a change in diet would do is determine the duration at which you can hold that high intensity due to sufficient, or not sufficient, glycogen storage.

thanks for the read, it's been known for quite a while that fat loading does not equal a performance benefit, as stated in the review (from 2006)

and by the way, i agree whole-heartedly with you saying you can't teach your body to burn more fat.

Wait . . . .but mid-afternoon TV says differently. I think I'll trust them.

So if there is no performance benefit to fat loading, is there one to carb loading?

I read the journal as stating: You can't teach your body to burn more fat by eating more fat. Doesn't apply to teaching your body to use more fat by any other means.

Don't you burn more fat at a given work load if you are more fit? Isn't hard training a way to teach a body to burn more fat?

- Yes.
- Yes, but there isn't any teaching involved.

Right I agree there is not "teaching" but there there is training. we 100% can control the metabolic pathway that we utilize for fat oxidation by varying our training intensity and HR. SAID specific adaptations to imposed demands.... we must remember that Ketosis is protein sparing thus with no carbs fat is the only thing left.. teaching still not sure but training sorry man

Biggest part out of recent studies is controlling Leptin levels, which controls whether body goes into fat burning or fat storing mode.

A lot of this can be accomplished through timing, and not just when you eat or how you combine foods, but also the same with exercise as well. The biggest component is going through a cycle of changes so the body does not get into a pattern, maintaining Leptin levels in a fat burning zone, and keeping it from going into a protein catabolic state
