San Diego Bike Shops looking for Lead Salespersons and General Manager roles to fill

I'm the Factory Representative for a major bicycle brand and have been asked by a few of my key dealers to help them find new and professional sales staff to work in their stores.

Here are the job descriptions for both possitions, but know that I'm interviewing people for several roles at several shops.

Position Title: Senior Salesperson
Reports to: Sales Manager
Anticipated Hire Date: ASAP

San Diego, CA based retailer of bicycle and multi-sports products, seeks an experienced and personable Senior Salesperson for its established retail store. The Senior Salesperson will report to the General Manager and be responsible for daily sales and customer service communication. The ideal candidate will be conscientious of the needs of the customer, maintaining high quality work standards and willing to work within the retail storefront at the shop.

There are focuses on high-end road and triathlon bikes, but a substantial amount of low and mid-range mountain and recreational bikes, as well. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be a well rounded salesperson with extensive experience working with all types of bicycles including, Specialized, Trek, Cervelo, Felt and others.

Key Responsibilities Include:
_ Listen, understand, and meet customer cycle, bike fit, and nutrition needs.
_ Bicycle sales and custom fit design.
_ Utilize the systems in the shop to accurately manage special orders and sold bicycle assembly requirements.
_ Ring up sales utilizing the stores Point of Sale system.
_ Work closely with the service staff and fit technicians to “set-up” bikes as specified.
_ Work closely with customers to clearly understand their bicycle related problems, needs or goals, and write clear service tickets which appropriately address the situation.
_ Communicate professionally and courteously with customers and B&L team.
_ Attend the company’s monthly store meetings.
_ Participate in Sales department meetings.

Key Skills Include:
_ Understand bicycle, run, and swim product lines.
_ Must possess people skills suitable for effective communication with customers and fellow team members.
_ Computer skills including proficiency with email and the ability to learn the shop’s Point of Sale system.
_ Excellent organizational skills, used to complete work in a timely and professional manner.


_ Solid, experience-based understanding bicycle retail environment.

Required Background:
_ References illustrating successful history as a salesperson.
_ 3 years experience as retail salesperson.
_ Certification from a bicycle fitting school is a plus.

Compensation:
$12 - $16 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and references.

Position Title: General Manager
Key Responsibilities Include:

Responsible for execution of the company's business plan, including achieving sales goals, budget compliance and profit goals.
Participation in the company's annual strategic planning session, and quarterly planning meetings.
Hiring world class team members to work in the store.
Leading regular company meetings to discuss successes and failures, communicate product information, train on policies and procedures, and report on company status with respect to achieving goals.
Coaching individual team members to help them best understand and realize their specific objectives in the store.
Working with the President and team members to set and communicate clear objectives (for self and team members) and hold team members accountable to meeting their specific goals.
Communicate regularly and frequently with the President with regard to the operation of the store and status of the business relative to company objectives.
Scheduling staff to cover all store functions while meeting store "payroll $:sales $" objectives.
Ensuring excellent customer experiences on the sales floor.
Having a frequent presence on the store sales floor, meeting and greeting customers, making sales, and assisting with and resolving customer service matters.

Responsible for the maintenance of the physical plant of the store, including its equipment, heating / cooling, security, computers, etc.
Coordinate inventory counts, stocking and merchandising of products with central Buyer.
Coordinate with Marketing Manger to develop marketing initiatives (i.e. Customer Loyalty Program) which increase sales and improve customer relationships, and aid in the creation support materials (i.e. collateral print pieces, web-based initiatives, in-store incentive programs and rewards programs) which support these initiatives.
See that the company's Point of Sale system is properly used and maintained. Arrange necessary training and maintenance with IT professional when necessary.


Disciplining team members for misconduct and, when necessary, terminating employees in line with the procedures set forth by the President.
Develop and enforce policies which ensure the security, safety, cleanliness and smooth operation of the business, in line with all local laws and regulations.
Key Skills Include:
General supervisory skills necessary to the management of people; communication skills sufficient to articulate company vision and work objectives, ability to conduct performance reviews, scheduling, discipline, hiring and termination procedures, etc.
Strong people skills are mandatory for motivating team members, listening to others, resolving conflict, administering critique and praise, leading and otherwise leading the company while encouraging a friendly, positive culture.
Computer skills including proficiency with Outlook, Word, Excel, and a major Point of Sale system.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, used to generate frequent, professional and positive communications to team and customers.
Excellent organizational skills, used to complete work in a timely and professional manner and set an example to the team.
Ability to generate and adhere to a budget.
Basic familiarity with financial reports (i.e. P&L, budget).
Solid, experience-based understanding of bicycle sales, the bicycle repair business, bicycle clothing, bicycle store merchandising.

Required Background:
A proven track record of success as a bicycle retail manager.
References illustrating successful history as a manager, specifically pertaining to the achievement of business goals and the ability to effectively work with others.
4 year degree from an accredited University or equivalent relevant experience.
3 years experience as a bicycle retail shop manager.
5 years experience in bicycle retail.
