Job Summary:

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) is seeking an events manager to support the creation and execution of a multi-million dollar fundraising bike ride in the Northwest benefiting its research efforts. Reporting to the Hutch Ride Director of Marketing and Operations, the Event Manager will help design the inaugural route, work with local agencies to operationalize this large-scale event and create an experience that becomes iconic.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Drive and effectively communicate the ride and the organization's mission, values and scope
• In collaboration with the Director of Marketing and Operations, route the ride, procure vendors/suppliers, and oversee plan development and execution
• Manage external agencies to help produce and promote the event
• Work with local municipalities to secure permits
• Coordinate with a local hosting institution to secure proper accommodations (housing and food)
• Plan rider and volunteer support systems for the event
• Help secure and plan proper production of headline entertainment and speakers
• Work with FHCRC Development staff to steward ride participants, benefactors and volunteers
• Forge partnership and resource agreements with FHCRC existing resources including:Finance; Development Information Systems; Legal; Information Technology; Facilities; and Human Resources
• Understand and uphold 501(c)(3) and Washington state rules and regulations
• Protect sensitive and confidential information
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Summary of Experience

• 3+ years managing events
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, community affairs, public relations, industrial engineering, or comparable
• Fluency in typical desktop applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proven success:

• Executing a large-scale, public, outdoor event
• Working with municipalities, law enforcement, and other permitting organizations
• Conquering large, complex challenges

Personal qualities:

• Creative problem-solving
• Confidence amidst ambiguity
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills
• Respect for excellence and a high degree of confidentiality
• Strict attention to [and appreciation for] detail
• Awareness of safety and security risks inherent in this type of event
• Insight about each participant's experience within the collective event
• Pure excitement to be part of something new and part of an energized, ambitious team
• Willingness to provide a range of duties from escorting headline entertainers to ordering port-a-potties
• A passion for cycling is a bonus
