Looking to start a collegiate triathlon program in the PHL area
Quote | Reply
I've tried to start working with a few local colleges, but didn't get much traction there. I'm looking for a university in the greater PHL area that wants to start a triathlon program (club or varsity). I'm near King of Prussia, but would be willing to go anywhere in the suburban area or city. Not necessarily looking for well paying job, I'd just like to start/build a program and go from there.

I don't have a specific school for you to start a club but there is an active team relatively close to you: Drexel. They're relatively new and I believe they have a coach but it couldn't hurt to ask. I coach the Stevens Team in Jersey and new teams are popping up in the region every year. Just make sure you join and participate in the NECTC and the team is bound to grow. http://nectc.net/teams.php.

Good luck!

I have reached out to some members of the Drexel Tri Team. Then, I reached out to a few more...
Finally, I got an answer that they DO have a coach and they are not interested in a new coach.
I have a few students at a certain local university who are interested in a program, but it didn't get traction from the university. It sounded like they weren't interested or they already had enough/too many club sports. Not sure exactly what that means, but I didn't get a warm reception and I'm not sure that it's wise to pursue it further. At any rate, now I have this idea in my head and I really do like the idea of coaching a college tri team.
Thanks for the link, and feel free to drop me a line if you hear of anything coming up locally.
