Nags Head Ocean Rescue, looking for lifeguards.

The Town of Nags Head, located on the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina, is now accepting ocean lifeguard applications for the 2012 summer season.

The Towns Ocean Rescue Lifeguard Unit protects approximately 12 miles of beachfront with a staff of 32 lifeguards. On a weekly basis, lifeguard personnel are assigned to stationary stands or ATV roving patrols. The lifeguard work schedule is 10-11 days per two-week pay-period, averaging 46-48 hours per week.

Applicants must:
- be at least 18 years of age or older
- possess a valid drivers license
- pass an employment drug screening
- be able to swim 500 meters in 10 minutes, or less!
- be able to run 1-mile in 8 minutes or less!


Ocean Rescue Lifeguard base pay is $11.00 per hour, or $11.50 per hour for EMT certification. A housing supplement of $25 per week is also available for lifeguards who work a minimum of 40 hours per week.


Applicants who are offered a position will also be required to successfully complete 48 hours of in-house USLA Open Water Lifesaving instruction / training along with 43.5 hours of US-DOT First Responder instruction / training. Training Camp will run May 14th through May 25th, 2012; this training is mandatory for all guards.
