The ENVE SES 5.6 Disc DT Swiss 240 wheelset is the ultimate disc brake specific aerodynamic road race wheelset. Featuring a brand new rim designed specifically for disc brake equipped bikes, the 5.6 uses the Smart ENVE System to create a rim that is strong, stable, and aerodynamic.
Rather than simply lace a preexisting rim to a disc brake hub, ENVE went back to the drawing board to take advantage of the loss of the rim brake track. This new shape features a slight curve where the brake track would be, resulting in better airflow between the tire and rim, boosting stability and predictability in a variety of wind conditions. Instead of using a simple NACA-approved airfoil shape, ENVE's engineers let the depth of their rims dictate the ideal dimensions to reduce lateral forces while simultaneously increasing aerodynamic benefits.
Like the other offerings in the SES line, the 5.6 wheelset features different dimensions for the front and rear wheels. A shallower 54mm deep rim sits up front, providing more stability and responsiveness in the corners, while a deeper 63mm deep rim brings up the rear. ENVE rims boast some of the highest strength-to-weight ratios, partly in thanks to their unique molding system. Rather than traditional inflatable bladder molding for the rim shape and drilling out holes, ENVE removes the bladder once molding is complete and molds in spoke holes, nipple seats, and valve stem holes. The result is a rim with increased rim rigidity and lower weight.
ENVE chose the DT Swiss 240s hubset for these rims, providing a smooth and efficient riding experience. 24 spokes front and rear keep the wheels stiff and responsive. The dual through axles provide confidence inspiring handling, integrating the wheels into the frame and creating a bike-wheel system that can stand up to hard riding.
