Farewell to a tough and classy athlete
After 22 seasons wearing the Winged Wheel, Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman announced his retirement from hockey today. Three Stanley Cups, 10 times an All Star, top ten in goals scored and total points, and an amazing ability to come back from injuries that would have ended most players' careers.

He'll be much missed in Detroit, and in some ways, it feels like the end of an era in the NHL. It's been a long time since there hasn't been a Stevie, Mario, or Wayne on someone's roster to start a season.

My second favorite hockey team is whoever is playing against Detroit, but Yzerman was one of the tougher guys to hate.

Yeah. Monday was a sad day in our household. Neither my wife nor I have known the Red Wings to be without Stevie Y. The end of a truly legendary era.

Who's your bet to wear the C next? My money is on Shanahan.
