As I mentioned before IMNZ I had been using Champion Nutrition Muscle Nitro in training and had used it succesfully at Ironman Canada in 1997.
I can report that I experienced a relatively low level of muscular fatigue after IMNZ and my recovery has been "good" following the race. Some of this may be attributed to the 16 Muscle Nitro capsules I took during the race and that I used the stuff in training.
My primary limiting factors at IMNZ seemed to be a lack of calories and fluids on the run, particularly manifesting themselves in the second half of the run.
It proves: Ironman is not a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run- it is a half marathon when you are destroyed.
Trying to keep from being destroyed seems to be the key.
I think Muscle Nitro helped. some more fluids and a few more calories would have helped more.
Good thing there are other races coming up soon...... :)
