can someone please explain the logic of this one???

The circular logic used by the pharma profiteers and their friends in Government is mind boggling.

You can't grow your own natural pot to alleviate your cancer pain or lack of appetite, you have to buy their synthetic stuff at presumably a pretty inflated price.

They tell you its for your own good because smoking pot is bad for you...why haven't they banned cigarettes then? I guess brownies must be fattening as well.

The FDA supports your right to get high and hungry on synthetic THC, but if you use the stuff that grows in the ground your ass will get hauled off to jail.

Synthetic marijuana drug coming to chemo patients

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Seventeen years after it was withdrawn from U.S. markets, a synthetic version of the active ingredient in marijuana is going back on sale as a prescription treatment for the vomiting and nausea that often accompany chemotherapy, the drug's manufacturer said Tuesday.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International hopes to begin selling Cesamet in the next two to three weeks, company president Wes Wheeler said.

The Costa Mesa, California, company received Food and Drug Administration approval Monday to resume sales of the drug, which it bought from Eli Lilly and Co. in 2004. Valeant currently sells the drug, also called nabilone, in Canada.

Lilly originally received FDA approval for nabilone in 1985 but withdrew it from the market in 1989 for commercial reasons, Wheeler said. Valeant, since purchasing the drug, has revised its label and updated its manufacturing process, he added.

The drug will compete with Marinol, made by Belgium-based Solvay SA. Marinol, another synthetic version of tetrahydrocannabinol, the active ingredient in marijuana that's more commonly known as THC. It also received FDA approval in 1985.

Synthetic THC acts on the brain like the THC in smoked marijuana but eliminates having to inhale the otherwise harmful smoke contained in the illegal drug, Valeant said.

Cesamet is a Schedule II drug, meaning it has a high potential for abuse. The 1-milligram tablets are meant to be taken twice daily before cancer patients undergo chemotherapy and up to 48 hours following treatment. Side effects include euphoria, drowsiness, vertigo and dry mouth.

The FDA last month said it does not support the use of marijuana for medical purposes.

Hey, I'm with you on this one. Our drug policies are messed up. Everything should be legal, especially pot.

Matt, you are the one that generally wants an all powerful federal government. You should be happy the much wiser feds overruled the stupid people in CA regarding the state medical marijuana laws, shouldn't you?

This is the problem with government that gets too big. You get a mess.

Art, there's 2 kinds of government. There's the kind that helps the people and there's the kind that helps corporations help themselves. This is the latter variety.

And the size of government is really immaterial, both parties are in favor of bigger government only Democrats want you to pay for it and Republicans want to put it on the credit card and have your kids pay for it.

"both parties are in favor of bigger government."

Matt, in the future, please stop pissing me off by confronting me with all these facts.

Did that election in 1994 really happen, or is it just an hullucination?

No, Democrats want you to pay for others, who make no effort of their own, to live.

Is that why the Republicans pushed so hard for the largest piece of welfare in recent history, the drug benefit?
