This. I’m a strong swimmer and the current is a bit unnerving. I watched a buoy go by and soared by at an alarming rate. You can’t get too close to them. You need some ability to prevent yourself from being swept off course.

Why do swimmers choose it? Because it is a fun course with a great atmosphere - and this is a hobby for most of us. Plus it is only 45 minutes from home. Nice to finally have a local venue. Cheers!

I'm not a fast swimmer, but I grew up surfing and feel pretty confident in open water. But during the first quarter of that swim yesterday I freaked out a bit - you have hardly any control.

To go back to the upstream swim - it's definitely doable from the swim exit. you could start at the swim exit, swim out and up the river 1k and then turn around. I did it Friday and found it to be a pretty honest effort similar to what I'd swim in a standard 1.2 mile swim (20 minutes up and then 10 minutes down).

The bike course is very flat with really nice roads and the run course is flat and mostly shaded. Great event, I really enjoyed the race. Interesting to note that New Zealand 70.3 slots were very in demand.

I ended up 2nd in my AG and both slots rolled. I just don't have the money to blow. I think 3rd and 4th got 'em.

IM normally if they add an uphill segment basically would configure it to like 500m up, 1500m down. It would likely bring in too much safety concerns to go 50/50 up and down.

Just looking at the tracker....~2400 finishers (DNF DNS arent listed). Was that a sell out? Idk I guess I'm used to seeing 3k as a "healthy" race number. I know it is year 2, so there is that factor as well.

I'm a swim snob as well and usually stick my nose at this sort of race. I did it last year (arm twist from a friend) and it was an incredible amount of fun. The swim was literally a 1.2 mile slip and slide. Swim skills do come in a bit handy - mostly in navigating the current and not panicking. Those who were nervous swimmers had a hard time.

With a swim time range of 0:06:06 (from fastest to slowest) in the MPRO field, I'm curious what constitutes an "advantage" to you - especially considering the Top 5 were separated by 0:06:18 at the finish?

So basically, this course blows Augusta 70.3 away!!

Revel races are a total joke, especially for those just going to BQ.

I agree with this - I would love for it to be a 1.8 mile swim but the same sensations - it was a ton of fun and I did it the "slow" year lol
