Armrest pads that attach directly to base bar
Quote | Reply
Hi,

For spring riding I'm planning on leaving the Tri bike on the trainer and using my road bike for long outdoor rides. To get a some time riding in the aero position on the road bike I've put an old set of aero bars on it, but the issue is that the arm pads are way too high(trying to approximate position on Tri bike). If I could put some paddling directly on the base bar it would be low enough. I've searched online for some cheapish solutions but haven't come up with anything.

Any suggestions welcome

Thanks:)

It definitely wasn't comfortable, but the original Scott DH bars came with armrests that were essentially foam mountain bike grips

Buy these: https://www.amazon.com/...athlon/dp/B07Y5BTDF4

Either use as-is, or cut off the extensions and just use them as arm cups.

Option2: I probably have some of the old Profile arm cups that clamped onto the basebar (pm if interested) in my old parts drawer. Others may as well.

Thanks, I think these could work for me, but tracking them down would be tough.

I like both of your options, but I think I'll start with option 2. I'll DM you- hopefully you can find those old profile pads):

Thanks, these Zipp bars would work very well, but for now I'm looking for the cheapskate option:)

Not cheap, but Profile makes an upside down mount (https://profile-design.com/...cts/l2-bracket-kit-1)

Another option is to just grab an adjustable stem. They're like $30, but you can move the whole setup (pro or con).

Of course you can always just tape some padding to the bars directly if you really want to.

You could always do a DIY version, using foam tubing (pipe insulation, etc) until you find a better solution. Better than nothing until you get some actual armrests...

They do exist and here they are:

Anne Haug had these on her ITU canyon bike several years ago, ST did a profile on that bike here:

I’ve been obsessed with it since and honestly I don’t get why someone like a Tririg doesn’t make one…ok I do get why but still, how many of us would use this just like you are going to? I’m likely selling my Felt IA because I’m moving and I don’t use it, but I still harbor some desire to get low and aero from time to time, or I might do an Oly tri at some point but on my road bike, and while not perfect from a fit perspective I bet it’s close

Yeah i think I’m going to have to tape some padding to the bars for now, as it’s looking like I’m going to be out on the road bike earlier than expected. Snow is melting fast here:)
