I’m just curious, what kind of times do park swimmers swim in practice, say for 100m repeats?

I feel like I have a decent handle on what peak running and biking paces are and I thought I had a handle on swim paces too but came across a few things recently that have me thinking differently.

That said, are peak masters swimmers putting out 1:00/100m for repeats?

I’ve swam every day in the past week with my swims since my last post as follows:
1800 on the 26th as 18 100’s 1:28-1:33 with a few slower as my “cooldown”
2500ish (forgot to record the warmup)on the 27th as a group swim mostly 100s with a few longer sets 1:29-1:31 (with some draft)
1500 on the 28th as mostly 100s with a few longer sets sprinkled in 1:26-1:33. Intended to do longer but I apparently I can’t math total yardage
1750 today with 200 warmup, mostly 50s and 5 100’s. 1:29 warmup, 50s 1:13-1:23, 100s 1:24-1:28 even though they were meant as breaks from the 50s.

Kind of felt like today was a bit of a breakthrough swim in terms of paces. We’ll see if it sticks into next week

I love those days.

After being closed for two months for renovations, I thought I would be thrilled to get back to swimming regularly, but it's like the opposite effect has taken place! I have a hard time motivating myself to go and swim now, especially since they can't ever get the chemicals right, and the pool water has been cloudy every time. :( It's gotten to where I dread seeing the swim workouts in Training Peaks. Any advice on getting motivated to swim twice weekly?

Not even close, in fact that would be a very top pro time to hold for repeats, and even then not really unless on a ton of rest. Some pros might swim minutes for SCY in repeats, but that is a long way off of doing it LCM..

Got in today after my 3 day vacation, walked about 20 miles around Knotts Berry farm over the 3 days:

10x100@1;40, odds buoy/evens back--buoy(1;27/25/23/22/21)backs(1;32/30/29/28/25 500IM kick@10;00(9;29)

Best masters short course set I’ve heard is 25 x 100 as 10 on 120,10 on 115 and 5 on 10. This is 45 plus swimmers some real studs. . I think only two made it properly, one swimming and the other pull paddles. The rest of the group drafting and trying to hang on

1 min flat no way - like Monty said

In my area Long course best masters swimmers can do 115 pace on 120-125 cycle up to 2k id say. I’ve heard 10x100 on 120 holding 112 pace but that may be a few seconds slower than what actually happened

Very impressive! Well done.

I've been on a roll the last couple weeks swimming Mon-Fri, but I woke up this morning and I think my daughter gave me pink eye. I decided to skip the pool to spare everyone else those germs. Looks like I'll be missing at least a few days so I plan to do some double sessions at (I hope) the end of the week to make up for missed days.

Just looked and I got about 55k yards this month, kind of a surprise to me. Thought because of all the issues I had going on, it would be less, but stats dont lie..Last one of the month was not bad:

4x500as 2 buoy@7;30(7;09/6;53)IM kick@10;00(9;35)pull@7;00(6;20)
2x(100bk@2;30/100IM @2;00/100frog@2;30)bk(1;32/1;27)IM(1;22/1;20+)frog(1;47/1;44)
5x100p@1;40/35/30/25(1;14/14/14/15/11) 4x50odds frog@1;00/even dolphin@1;10(52/52/1;01/1;04)2x50 buoy(38/37)50 kick

35k meters in January.

Need to be careful not to overdo by going too high volume too quickly since I just started the swim focus. Happy with the frequency and progress though! Top speed increasing, endurance increasing, cruise pace same with lower effort.

Top 3 challenges this month:
- Organisation. During my normal workout times the pool is very crowded. Need to go earlier or much later.
- Rotation and body position. I swim very flat on the left.
- Goggles are becoming painful. At first there were only marks. Now it seems my eye sockets are swollen and it is constantly painful. I guess too tight.

January was definitely wet for me. I spent the first week of it in Todos Santos drinking tecate and pacifico for breakfast and looking at humpbacks :)

Aside from two swims the rest of the month it was a very dry january as i'd had my booze fill for a while.

Been outta the water too long (decade?), worried that 1:55s might not be a thing again unless i actually trained for it :'(
