Swissside has comparisons of the sorts at the bottom of https://www.swissside.com/...riant=39255802380387

(and yes, it's quite little between a pair of 625 and a 800/disc combo)

Following and appreciate the advice others gave you; I’ve been looking at the following for my stock Trek Domane (road bike, not tri, with clip on aeros and disc brakes).

Did you consider any of them and have thoughts, or what did you decide to go with? FWIW female, 165lbs (was a sprinter/lifter so out on muscle by thinking about working out), and have only done one 70.3 and some Olympics in pursuit of move to endurance from power.

Thanks for that!
Only 30s difference between a 60/60 and a disc/80 for a 90k at 180W?!!
I really don’t understand all the hoopla about discs now. I guess if it looks sexy and cool, it will sell.

I already have a road bike. I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years now and I do usually 1 full so I hang out with my brother who loves them (I have no clue why), and about 2-4 HIM’s per year. The HIM’s are my A races. I would say if you’re going to be a 1 and done person, clop bars are probably logical. But if it’s something you love and enjoy and will do many of per year, then get a tri bike. And don’t overthink it; get the one your heart desires. You will ride it more and will be faster on it as a result.

As for wheels, I decided to go with the 60/60 Vanquish performance. At $1400, it’s a good deal. Plus at most I’m giving up 30s it seems to other wheels.
I like to keep things simple. I still haven’t bought into the tubeless rage. Given the complexity I have to go through, I don’t see the benefit over latex tubes and good tires. So another think I like to keep simple is the fact that my front and rear wheels are the same depth. When I carry my spare tube, I don’t have to worry about different size extenders and such. My spare tube will fit both wheels.

I have heard grumblings of good performance with the wheels from Premier. I can't confirm, I have never physically seen them

They would be $1535 for disc+88mm.

Maybe someone has info

I have that wind tunnel info!

Crushed enve wheels and was .5-2w faster than HED wheels.

I would not hesitate to ride the Premier or HED wheels if I was ever going to race again.

Thanks so much! Really appreciate the insight. Not sure on the multiple /yr yet but advice given (elsewhere fwiw) is that wheels would be the best bang for buck for now. I’ll check out some bike options…

Their Black Friday sale is pretty good for a pair of wheels with genuine DT Swiss 180 hubs. The difference between the 800 and Disc is only 2W per their own admission. I’d jump on a set of 625/800 for the price since their 800 front is out of stock.

JoshAtSilca wrote an excellent post that explains the benefit of disc wheels. I did not get any search hits, but maybe someone else can link to it.

There are a few things that are not reflected in simple modeling that show only a few seconds difference: watts to spin and actual wind angle. Depending on the wind, the difference can be a little to a whole lot. A lot is more common in actual real life application. There’s also a stability benefit in moving the center of force rearward.

Edit: marcag found it - https://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ost=7346345#p7346345

Now I know why I ride so much faster on race day!

Seriously though, my times with my Premier tactical wheels 88/disc are always my fastest in training and definitely in training, even compared to 88/88 wheels which I thought would be nearly identical. Nice to see that there's wind tunnel data confirming my suspicions!

The bike is freaking fast too!!
