Thinking about this, though, it's amazing the whitewashing that's been done to his career now that he's on the liberal train.

Space before your link makes it work.

Howard has always obviously been a liberal from way back in the day.

Thanks for the link tip. Didn't know that. Fixed.

Sure, he was one of those liberals who exploited the mentally disabled, gave voice to racists, treated women like objects, and railed against taxes and the government. Different times back then.

That's certainly some of it. Comedians did and do all kinds of stuff that wouldn't be as acceptable today. Not to mention, most people aren't monolithic in their opinions as far as liberal v. conservative, especially over decades. That being said, I don't know how anyone who listened to him over the years wouldn't think that he's always been basically a liberal.

His platform included making construction workers work solely at night (which unions would have been against) and reinstating the death penalty (not a big Dem position as far as I'm aware).

He also eventually withdrew because he refused the financial disclosure on the grounds of individual rights to privacy.

I believe he was running as a libertarian. So the right to privacy thing is pretty standard I would think.

So you just read right through the union construction work and death penalty things.

I digress.

Getting the thread back on track.

As a major fan who supported Stern in numerous arguments back in the day telling people "You have to listen to him. He's not what you think." But still having to read over and over how he was a misogynistic shock jock. Now, because he's actively on the right team, all is well.

It's not too hard to call bullshit on the reporting on this one.

That's what I remember as to why he pulled out. The bit had to end at some point for some reason.

I've been a Stern fan and daily listener for the past 30 years. His gubernatorial run in '94 was of course a bit and ego driven publicity stunt (kind of like someone else six years ago). He actually started polling well enough that him being in the race could possibly influence how the election shook out as he would have likely taken votes away from Pataki (eventual winner) and given the victory to Cuomo. While the financial disclosure issue was the escape parachute out, many think (me included) that Stern didn't want the bit to actually affect the vote. Despite his narcissism and ego, he was self aware enough to know that fucking up an election as a joke was not cool. Unlike someone else that ran for office as an ego boosting publicity stunt, somehow gained traction and popularity, didn't pull the rip cord, got elected, and fucked up the country.

I am not really defending Stern, I've never really liked him. But his reason for pulling out would be consistent with the Libertarian viewpoint.

Of course, the rest isn't and that was likely part of the joke.

Knowing how you have stated in the past how you listened to Stern, I was wondering when you were going to post. I was actually looking for your name. I listened to him a little in the past and just didn't like his shock jock style. Listening to some of his interviews now, he actually does a good job. That's all I see, does he still do any of the shock jock stuff?

He will still launch into inappropriate and wacky bits from time to time (usually staff hijinks related) but there hasn't been a stripper or pornstar in the studio since probably the late 2000s during the first few years at Sirius. The show took a different turn after Artie Lange left at the end of 2009. Not sure if Artie leaving was the catalyst for Howard to make his show more interview centric or not. It was sort of organic really. I think Howard was also aware of how dopey it was for a guy in his late-50s (at the time) to be acting like he's still 25 years old.

My real criticism of his show recently has to do with the fact Howard has not been in his studio since March 2020 when COVID shut everything down. Howard is a super germaphobe and COVID fear has really done a number on him. He has been running his show over Zoom for the past 2+ years. It was kind of neat at first and has offered up some opportunities that in studio shows could not like interviewing people in foreign countries. But it has run its course and is now an impediment to putting on a great show. There's something lost by not having he and his staff physically in studio and all that entails. I think he is taking a two month hiatus for the summer so I hope he's back in studio when they return.

I haven't listened to him in well over a decade now, but listened consistently ever since he came to Philly way back in the day when he was only on in NY and Philly. I always thought the best thing he did was his interviews. I never understood people who thought he was misogynistic or racist or whatever.

Especially because whenever the Howard Stern shock jock persona slipped a bit you could see that underneath it he was a really decent person.

A lot of his hardcore fans were idiots who didn't really get the satire. A lot of them are the same ones the hated Robin.

The show would not be what it is w/o Robin. She is awesome on many levels! Heck she completed the NYC Marathon at age 58.

I also love Beth Stern. I follow her on Instagram which is primarily about all the cats she fosters in their home. She's an amazing person. Beautiful on the inside and out.

My husband has been listening to Howard for years in the car on satellite radio. I don't mind Howard. He does give great interviews. And I enjoy listening to him talk about politics and current events since we have the same values politically speaking. I'm neutral on the raunchy stuff. I usually just zone out when he starts talking about the gross stuff or change the channel. I don't find it offensive; I just get bored easily lol and I've heard it all.

That's pretty much always how I was. Whack packers could be hit or miss. I stopped listening not long after he went to satellite because he was increasingly missing so much time. Plus for me the show was never the same once Jackie left and Artie became the main sidekick, I just never found him funny.

Here is a Rolling Stone article detailing her cancer issue: https://www.rollingstone.com/...robin-quivers-63437/

Jackie was a guest a couple of times in the early Sirius years and Howard even gave Jackie his own show on Howard 101 (Howard has Sirius channels 100 for the main show and 101 for ancillary stuff). It was called Jackie's Joke Hunt <insert Jackie laugh... haha... get it?... Joke Hunt!>. It ran for several years.
