Canyon Speedmax CF SLX vs Quintana Roo X-PR
Quote | Reply
So I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for the new Canyon to be available however it still has unknown availability. Other bikes have been released such as the Trek speedmax also with little to no availability. I have to admit Quintana Roo wasn't on the top of my list at first however after doing a bit more research I'm definitely coming around and getting close to purchasing one. I'm hoping someone has some actual experience with them and can offer some insight. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of Hands-On reviews online. I know these are both new models but I'm just on the fence if I should wait for that speedmax or pull the trigger on the XPR. What are your opinions and why?

I would be building the quintana roo with the ultegra di2 and the hed vanquish 6/8 pro Wheels.

QR builds a top notch tri bike here in Southeast Tennessee. For long distance triathlon racing they are right up there near the top as far as I am concerned. I currently ride a Speed Concept but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a QR if I were in the market for a new bike. I have friends who ride QR tri bikes and they rave about them and the support they get from customer service.

I've been looking into a new tri-bike off and on over the last year or so. These are strange times and it's hard to fork out that kind of money when it seems like the world is on fire. More so than ever in my 52 years of life. But as crazy as things may be outside the world of triathlon, I really need a new bike. Not sure if mine is 100% safe.

How hard would it be to even purchase a new QR or any new tri-bike ($5-8K)? What kind of waiting lists are there right now? Are we talking a year to get a new tri-bike with supply chain issues not resolved.

I can't answer your question about availability. There is another thread on new QRs and some folks seem to be getting them reasonably soon. But I bet if you contact ABGJay here on this board he could answer those questions for you.

After waiting 6 + months for a Canyon restock that never came, I ordered a Q PRSix2 in March of this year. Arrived in like two weeks with zero issues - bike has been awesome (and fast!) so far I have no complaints. My fitter also commented how she has had many great experiences with QR customer service in terms of providing additional parts/components for folks who need to swap parts to improve their fit.

There's not a reviews online about QR bikes because everybody that owns one is busy riding their bike with a big grin on their face instead of banging away on the keyboard trying to justify whatever bike they bought instead.

QRs are the most common-sense and functional superbike out there. East Tennessee doesn't do "nonsense" - they build awesome stuff that works. :)

:-) I like this comment!

I know of several people who ride a QR and haven't heard a bad comment or review about them. I used to think I'd get a high end Cervelo since my husband loves his older P3. And we have friends who love their Cervelo tri bikes.

Well long story short I went with the QR X-PR in black with di2, rotor power cranks and HED pro 6/8 wheels. So excited for this bike. I can't talk highly enough of Quintana Roo and their order process. I was almost afraid to ask them to swap the saddle for one not listed feeling like I was be a pain in the ass but they were more than happy to do it with a minimal fee. If you're on the fence let my experience kick you off and just order the Quintana Roo!!!

Haha, a few days late on the reply, but super stoked to hear you decided to pull the trigger... thing looks ace!! I've been on the bike in a cursory sense with short spins for photoshoots, etc. but my wife is expected to get hers in the next few weeks, so pretty stoked to hear what she thinks, and to get on it a bit myself.

As to availability, you've already learned you're gonna get your bike in weeks, since we have bikes in stock in Chattanooga, paint to order, assemble to order (yeah, that saddle swap is a piece of cake!) and ship from HQ. The V-PR (and by proxy, the X-PR) are fast bikes, and handle and climb better than our previous models...both are a SIGNIFICANT performance step up. I'll be stoked to hear what you think once it arrives on your door and you get some miles on it! And yeah, it's gonna be nice to be on your new bike this season!!

Thanks. I'm super excited. Planning an unboxing vid and hopefully a short term review shortly after arrival.

Canyon actually came in stock last night for an hour. Still glad I changed my mind and went with QR. Your people are awesome over there and it gives me a lot of confidence in any post purchase follow up I may need.

The Canyon isn't really *new* anymore having been released coming up on 2 years in November. Heading into the last half of the 4 year release cycle here shortly (unless you're Cervelo & delay, and delay, etc.) QR makes a solid bike. I own one, it's been bullet proof (just not the X-PR model). I'd imagine in 2 year's time we will see all the biggest players with new bikes starting to hit the market in their next generation in one form or another.

Six year release cycle for the brands you mention
What you will see in two years is facelifts.

You know I mostly agree with you. The amazing part is this bike is 2 years old but yet to be delivered to general public in the US. So it still feels like brand new here however back to one of my primary Hang-Ups which is, can I really trust them to offer replacement parts if it takes them 2 years to get a bike to market when it was for sale in Europe long ago. I really hope they get much better here but I'm also really happy buying the Quintana Roo. So far such a joy to work with that company and the more I look into how they build their bikes I'm excited for its upgrade ability and ability to swap between parts brands.

Stoked that you're stoked! And yes, we're bullish on looking after our athletes, to ensure you've got what you need in terms of parts and replacement items in stock—or things you want to change when ordering. And as you may have seen at major events (IM Arizona, Kona, Chattanooga, St. George IM and 70.3 Worlds), we're always gonna be there with support... again with parts accessibility and complimentary pre-race QR service. You won't realize it

Again. so happy to hear you're having a great experience. Really want to hear what you think when you get it and start doing work on it!
