A blue-ribbon Army commission has recommended new names for nine Army bases named after Confederate leaders

Congress and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin must approve the nine naming recommendations.

Something like the following.

Ft Bragg --> Ft Liberty
Ft Hood --> Ft Cavazos
Ft Gordon --> Ft Eisenhower
Ft Lee --> Ft Gregg/Adams
Ft Pickett --> Ft Van Barfoot
Ft A.P. Hill --> Ft Walker
Ft Benning --> Ft Moore
Ft Rucker --> Ft Novosel
Ft Polk --> Ft Johnson

I hope they've all been well-vetted for racism, sexism, etc. or I fear there's going to be another round of re-naming in the not too distant future.

Why don't they just give them numbers? They have 1st Army and 8th Army Divisions, so they're already using numbers for that; VMF-214 also comes to mind

Use the area code and if there are more than one label them largest to smallest, or north to south?

I am guessing that we'll find out that some of these people were flawed in some way and people will later demand that the base be renamed... again...

Good. It is long past time for the Army to stop celebrating these traitors who fought on the side defending slavery.

Suffer Well.

Should I frame it?

Well that will be a pricey process and there are ships and other buildings to deal with to get those damn pesky rebels out of site.

By “pesky rebels” I assume you leaders of a military that killed more Americans than any other military so they could enslave black people and who’s name was on the base to celebrate white supremacy?

Seems kind wrong to name military bases after them, but I guess you disagree.

I don’t disagree, did I say don’t change the names? No.
Most statues , plaques etc have been removed.

26 ships. Some paint and some plaques. And ball caps.

Buildings? Not sure how many.

But well past time and worth it.

Pesky rebels is a weird way of saying traitors.

Suffer Well.

I've been watching a lot of interviews with Russian POWs in Ukraine. They always ask them name, address, military unit...

There's always an answer that is just a 5 or 6 digit number which I think is in response to a question about their army base.

If there were a base for excellent points, I’d name it Ft BLeP.

So it is happening.

SUBJECT: Implementation of the Naming Commission's Recommendations

The installations and facilities that our Department operates are more than vital national security assets. They are also powerful public symbols of our military, and of course, they are the places where our Service members and their families work and live. The names of these installations and facilities should inspire all those who call them home, fully reflect the history and the values of the United States, and commemorate the best of the republic that we are all sworn to protect.
...
I fully support the efforts and recommendations of the Naming Commission on this important matter, and I am committed to implementing all of the Commission's recommendations as soon as possible, subject to the expiration of the 90-day waiting period mandated by section 370(g), and no later than January 1, 2024. To that end, I direct the relevant DoD and Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Component heads to begin planning for implementation of the Commission's recommendations immediately.

Although the Department will not implement the renaming plan prior to the expiration of the 90-day waiting period on December 18, 2022, several of the Naming Commission's recommendations - including those related to changes to the Department's memorialization and naming processes - are not subject to the Congressional waiting period.

  • The renaming of Forts Lee, Pickett and A.P. Hill in Virginia; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Forts Gordon and Benning in Georgia; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Fort Hood, Texas.
  • The renaming of the cruiser Chancellorsville and the oceanographic survey ship Maury, at the discretion of the Navy secretary.
  • Renaming of buildings and street names, as well as removal of artwork, monuments and other tributes at the U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy.

Lieutenant General Hal Moore was a heck of a speaker. We'd had him in several times to speak to our cadets about leadership under the stresses of combat and his fight at LZ-X Ray when he was a young lieutenant colonel. Inspirational and emotional--he cared passionately about taking care of Soldiers.
