Good on everyone posting here. Giving money to the Food Pantry, Bank or just putting stuff in the little library food deposits are where the rubber hits the road folks. About as good as a contribution gets. The other thing I would like to mention in colder climates is to donate warm clothing to hospitals (that will take them) and homeless shelters.

I cleaned out my closet of a few stocking hats, gloves and a couple of fleece coats and gave it to my sister who works in the psych dept. of a local hospital. Sis called me about 10 minutes into her shift telling me my clothes didn't even hit the pantry. There was a discharge walking out as she was walking in and he got a hat, gloves and fleece jacket on the way out the door. Early cold spell in Montana this year and folks need gloves, hats and jackets bad.

Work with a women's victim center. They have a "Closet". Donating new or nearly new clothes, shoes, accessories have a greater impact beyond the practical. It is often the very first step to reclaiming dignity. Same for those that are homeless.

Good one WannaB. Anybody got other places we should all know about? I know we used to donate our old race T-shirts to the ER I worked in so even fairly well off people that needed a not bloody shirt to wear home got one. We got a lot of pay it forward on T-shirts from folks who very much appreciated the clean shirt to go we gave them. I would guess there are a bunch of places that could use a hand.

A couple of churches on my dog walks have old microwave pantrys set up. A stack of old microwaves with doors labeled, books, clothing, canned goods, toiletries ect. We swap books we have read along our dog routes and occasionally put in canned goods or bottled water in the bins. Once there was a six pack of beer and a bottle of wine in one of the bins. Not too sure that is what the church wanted, but it wasn't there 24 hours later. Had to check.

Hello Everyone,

I cannot believe I missed it this year. But lets run this back during the holiday season.

I want to make a modest donation to your local food bank. I will donate to the food bank that is posted by the first three people. I hope that others will carry it forward as well.

Best,

Matthew

Thanks!

I got this one.

If any of you travel abroad to countries with high rates of poverty or those with high medical bills, please visit hospitals and offer to put money towards or pay the entire bill to allow room for others in need of help. Over the summer, my friend and I visited Ghana and for a very small amount we were able to help five mothers (six babies) settle their bills and leave the hospitals debt free. It is a shame so many women around the world cannot leave hospital after giving birth unless the bills are fully paid.

Hello,

I hope that we can do this for another year.

The rules are simple.

The first three people who share a local food bank that I can donate to online will have a donation made.

In years past others have carried it forward.

Best,

Matthew
