I saw a news story about the legislature discussing changes to the recall process. I think that’s probably a good idea.
Former GOP Secretary of State Bruce McPherson suggested the process be changed to require “some solid evidence of malfeasance” and to guarantee that a replacement candidate can't prevail with a small number of votes. McPherson also backed raising the required number of signatures as “a logical way to, shall we say, tone down the recall process.”
With regard to the small number of votes, that could be fixed in at least two ways.
One way would be to require a certain number of voters to participate in the election by voting. Maybe require a super majority of voter to participate and simple majority to vote for winner.
Another way is to change the wording in the 2 questions to be:
1. Do you want a recall? (Yes/no)
2. Who should be the elected official? (Allowing the incumbent to be listed).
