I have posted ad nauseum about larger rings versus this 48t and 10t cog 1x sram nonsense for a while. Team GB seems to be trying that also. While tooth counts higher smaller chain means less diameter. British TT scene are among fastest and most efficient TT bikers around. I would pay attention to them.

With a smaller pitch, each link needs to pivot less for a given diameter ring/cog. They just made the chain links smaller instead of the rings/cogs bigger.

As the article mentions, it’s not a new approach. Chain drives are a mature technology, and the efficiency parameters are well understood.
