I agree with what we have seen from Lange. He is improving where he needs to. He has to have some silent confidence going into Kona this year. IMO,I don't think Frodeno can run with Lange at Kona if its heads up. You put Lange 2-3 minutes OTB to Frodeno and its going to be real close. But, what we saw from Frodeno and his cycling in 2019 how he rode off the front at the end... makes me believe if hes in that same fitness level it will be a true test if Lange is THAT strong that late into the ride.

Will be fun racing regardless.

Lionel now has to, at a minimum, either beat the Olympic gold medalist or 11th place finisher to KQ. Both of them will probably both work together with iden to get away. Lionel may never even see the front of the race if he goes to Copenhagen.

I don't think Lionel would have qualified at Placid. Here are the top finishers. Lionel may have a better chance at Frankfurt than Copenhagen

1. Rasmus Svenningsson (SWE) S 49:29 B 4:26:09 R 2:51:05 TOT 8:13:25
2. Arnaud Guilloux (FRA) S 47:32 B 4:30:13 R 2:58:29 TOT 8:23:13
3. Joe Skipper (GBR) S 52:01 B 4:35:36 R 2:49:04 TOT 8:24:01
4. Antoine Mechin (FRA) S 50:12 B 4:42:43 R 2:52:31 TOT 8:32:43
5. Kevin Portmann (USA) S 54:28 B 4:37:24 R 2:55:27 TOT 8:34:12
6. Adam Feigh (USA) S 53:54 B 4:46:24 R 2:53:07 TOT 8:39:46
7. Matt Russell (USA) S 54:11 B 4:36:12 T 3:05:42 TOT 8:42:50

Sounds like the lead pack on the bike drafter of the moto, hence the fast bike times.

I’ve been saying he should go to Frankfurt all along. More slots and no Norwegians. Does that conflict with the Collins cup? Not sure why it hasn’t been an option. He can’t switch now with those Olympic results, running away from competition is definitely not no limits. It’s no in his mindset anyway so I bet he’s actually excited to race those guys.

Some changes at the end of the race. Mechin dq'd after running the marathon, word from the course it was cutting the tangents on the run course.

I think Lionel gave many people a reality check a few weeks ago when he did his second IM in 3 weeks and travelled over 6 time zones east and only finished 16 min behind Frodo. At Kona 2019, 5th place (Wurf) was 15.5 min behind Frodo, so you can say Lionel held his own and there was only one European other than Frodo (Kienle) within 16 min of Frodo.

Lionel may have not beaten Frodo, but he was in the range of many others.
