The question was asked Friday. Apparently some replacement sites in the United States were considered but ultimately rejected since it would likely be an all-American event with maybe a smattering of Canadians and Mexicans. Realistically, any alleged 'world championship' event this year will likely end up being a regional event for local age groupers due to international travel issues.

I was hoping USAT might have shared an update this weekend with nationals ongoing, but haven’t seen anything. I guess we should just assume World Triathlon couldn’t find any possible replacement for Edmonton, so 2021 is gone? Anyone hear any rumors or see anything?

Unless WT comes up with a new venue then USAT has nothing to share. Plus, every potential 2021 venue poses risks for international travelers as the Delta event continues to spread. Right now Europeans cannot travel to the US, and this coming week the EU is expected to meet and vote on removing the US from their list of safe countries, mostly because we no longer meet their epidemiological standard, and partly as retaliation for the US not opening to them.

While domestic racing has resumed, international travel is still a shit show. No doubt this has much to do with the inability to find a suitable replacement venue.
