Until a few days ago, my Garmin 920XT has been fully charging without any issues. All of a sudden it only goes up to about 20% tops. I called Garmin for support - made sure none of the charger pins are stuck, cleaned pins, tried another charger, updated firmware, reset to factory setting. Nothing has worked. I'm assuming it's the battery. Has anyone ever replaced the battery? Any issues? Where is a safe place to buy it from? TIA.

I'd do a soft reset and try again. If that does not work, hard/factory reset - which will delete all your data and settings. Then consider a new battery if all of that fails...

My 920 has a knackered battery (charges by only holds up for a couple of hours).
I looked around and there were a few options available from ebay to DIY the change. But haven't got around to it ( got a new Polar instead a couple of years back,).
I had a 910 where the battery wouldn't charge (only a few months old,, after refurbishment- refurb unit due to a different earlier failure 😖). Just got a weird indication, something like the battery was at minus 1% when I put it on charge. Soft and hard reset had no effect.(charger worked OK on something else so knew it wasn't the charger that was faulty).
Sent back to Garmin who replaced the battery / send me yet another refurb'd unit on an exchange basis.
They were charging something like £85 or so back then ( 2-3 years ago) here in the UK. And got a 3 month warranty for the refurb'd unit.

Thank you very much for your input. Since Garmin doesn't provide any service for the 920xt anymore, I guess I'll give a DIY battery replacement a try. What do I have to lose, right? ;)

Thank you. I already did a reset to the original factory setting, which didn't solve the charging issues either. I guess a new battery it is.....

Ahhh, too bad. The suddeness of the battery problems had me thinking that it might be a software issure rather than a hardware issue. But batteries can also have hardware failures, so maybe that is the unfortunate case for you. If you choose to try the attery replacement, you might consider taking notes/pics and posting your experience here. I suspect than more of us will need this repair soon. :(

Will do. Fingers crossed this will take care of the issues. I'm just afraid the watch might not be waterproof anymore.

Keep us informed if you can of how it goes.
You will probably get it done before I get my finger out to try it. But keep meaning to. Useful as a back-up to out in the tow float on long swims to see what distance was really done (given the sometimes hit and miss nature of on-wrist OW swim data and the losses of signal when the hand is in the water.

I replaced my 920xt battery several years ago. Piece of cake. Just take you time, and be careful. If you're old like me wear your reading glasses. Those connectors are tiny.

Ps: get the battery and watch back combo, not just the bare battery. Like this

The bare battery is a lot harder to replace.

That does seem to be an easier install than the battery alone. But...the battery in these is not new? So there is some uncertainty in the runtime? I don't know, so these are Q...

Yes. That is true. I replaced mine in Nov 2019 for $17.79. I charged my watch 2 days ago, I ran yesterday, I'm currently at 82%. I go about a week between charges. It may not be like new, but for less than $20.... Seems like a bargain.

Ahhh, shame. My friend had this issue, battery change didn't help. Instead of that I started to play online casino for real money www.700wilshireloft.com to earn some cash for a new watch. So after that I won a loooot of money playing poker and slots, two my favorite games where I became a master. Click the link if you want to earn some cash as well, don't miss your chance!
my 920xt stopped working after I updated the firmware to 10.20 yesterday...
