Burning calories at home

Hi,

I had a bit of knee pain last summer after falling and twisting it moving a washing machine.

It didn't go away, and yesterday an MRI revealed a torn inner meniscus, cracked inner lower bone, torn tendon and some fluid to boot.

Soooo.. I'm seeing a surgeon first thing Monday morning, and the doctor said that running / cycling (including indoor) are banned. Even walking is limited. Swimming no chance, covid.

So is there any way of burning energy exercising at home?

Push ups etc. Are good but not real energy burners.

Is there anything I can do that will burn good energy in an hour or so? I struggle with weight, and as is typical for triathletes, my main concern is that !

Thank you for any ideas.

Boxing speed bag. You can get a pretty good work out and it won’t bother you knees.

You can also get a heavy bag to mix it up but it requires a little more space and set up.

A vasa ergometer or concept ski erg are the only things that come to mind other than a hand cycle machine...very difficult to do aerobic work without legs outside of those

Just a thought (I don't know if it's safe to do under the circumstances) but how about rowing without changing knee flexion, i.e. doing so without changing the knee angle. Can someone more knowledgeable please comment? (I.e., I'm inventing and don't know what I'm talking about.)

Only a peer's opinion and brainstorm, not a coach or nutritionist:

1. Bands are pretty easy to set up and use, especially as a swim routine.
2. Some of the dry land swimming workouts are entertaining and (somewhat obviously) not leg workouts. Search here or youtube for lots of Covid-inspired workouts.
3. If you'd like to workout like a world and Olympic champion, check out the quad rugby (wheelchair rugby) workouts. These folks are A-1 badasses, so if it's good enough for them...: http://www.iwrf.com/...or_Elite_Players.pdf.

Note: I wonder if wheelchair sprinters, 10k athletes, and marathoners publish their workouts and if they would be useful?

Sure, that's quite possible on most rowing machines. At least from the no-knee-flexion part. But I can't comment on how suitable it is from the medical standpoint, as most of the force will still travel through the legs, as the feet are the "anchor point" for rowing. It won't be very much force compared to a full stroke. But still some.
