Half ironman bike "new" aid stations
Ok...haven't raced in years but doing Eagleman (hopefully it doesn't get cancelled).

In previous years I'd have my aerobar hydration bottle and one other on the bike. If protocols remain the same and you have to stop to pick up your own water etc (no fly by bottle pick up), what's the best option?

1. Stop to get stuff
2. Carry enough to not have to stop except maybe once.

I use all liquid nutrition on the bike. I could fit all of that into one bottle and meter it out so to speak. Then I just need water.

So is the added weight worth the not stopping? For me..course is flat.

Arizona 70.3 aid stations on the bike were the same as normal. The only aid station change was on the run, where you had to grab your own drinks from the table. Not sure if other races have done anything different, but I would imagine they would be the same as Arizona

So people still handing out sealed water bottles on the fly on the bike course?

Yep! They were just a little more spaced out.

Keep in mind that Eagleman is just about always a very hot race, and you probably want to be pouring some water on yourself as well - I generally do that in hot races. I'm trying to remember exactly what I did when I raced Eagleman back in 2017, but I think it was a bottle between the aerobars with water, an aero bottle on the frame with nutrition and one water bottle behind the saddle. I'm pretty sure I got two more on-course water bottles. What I'd often do was squirt the remaining water in a bottle on myself right before getting a new one. I ended up with the fastest amateur bike split, so it worked out ok. The run wasn't that great - it is hard to prepare for heat and humidity. I'm also registered for Eagleman this year, and hoping it happens.

That was exactly my setup/process in the two Ironman Wisconsin's I did. 2004 was like 95 and humid.

No. My watts were actually lower than planned - around 80% of FTP. The heat and humidity were just more than I was able to prepare for and handle on the run. I had run 1:29 earlier in the year at 70.3 FL when it was just a bit cooler (around 80 degrees), and started the run around 7:10 pace to compensate for the hotter temps, but it still didn’t work out. I still had an ok finish, but not what I expected.
