Wasn’t there one about Chip nearly freezing his penis off? There are probably a few about Chip actually.

I think it was Chip as well that I seem to remember describing in great detail what happened after he shaved his ass !!

I remember a few times way back when where a prominent athlete like Gary Hall or Normann Stadler would chime in on a thread only to have people jump all over them with “you don’t know what you’re talking about!!!!” replies.

The Stadler one was memorable. A few brave posters were insulting his sportsmanship for ‘a pic of him giving the finger’ as he crossed the finish line at kona. He came on (I think he posted under “Napoleon?”) and pointed out that the photo of him giving the finger was actually him raising his arms as he won the race, and what the poster was saying was the FU finger was in fact a church steeple in the photo background.

Anyone recall or find the thread from the guy that came on to ST, cocky as all shit and told everyone he was going to qualify for Kona without ever doing a tri? Man did he get a lot of shit and LOLs, then went out and either did it or got really darn close to it.

That’s fantastic!

Best posts were back to back:
“ You should do some research on the flora and fauna of your next "A" race and surround yourself with native species. ”

“ Am I on Slowtwitch or did I drop into an old Steve Martin movie?”

That thread could have stopped after reply number one from chainpin, HTFU

Was that the one that was borderline Onlyfans.com material?

I don't remember that part. I just remember the Specialized girl with a bike frame strategically placed so the naughty bits weren't showing and then a bunch of dudes trying to recreate the pose. Or it might have been the other way around with the dudes posing first and then Specialized girl.

IIRC, the setup was that the specialized girl was a poster and the forum should guess who. I never understood all the fuss.

I never saw that thread the first time around, that was awesome. I skipped a lot of the early part of it, picked it up just before race day.

there was the guy who used to poop in a bag in his garage so as to not wake up his family in the morning. Or maybe he did it in the backyard. Either way rather pointless

Apparently I posted a YouTube video link reply in that thread, but now it says not available so who knows what it was. I don't even remember the thread let alone what the video was, and it was only 4 years ago.

I've looked for that one a few times, mistakenly searching for "Pocket" AND "Ultra" butt never had success

If it were written now, the line would be changed to simply "It is The Way"

I think GMAN is referring to a different guy, the dude had a MMA background, had less then a year to train for IM Lake Placid, wanted to go sub 10 in first tri. He posted his bike on sell here.

That one was very disappointing. I think someone actually complained to her sponsor which ended up getting dropped.

That thread was well worth reading! Now I want the epilouge. Where is he now? Did he ever do another triathlon or was it truly one and done. Did his wife ever "let" him do another?

Does Demerly still hold the record for the most numbers of posts? What's remarkable about that is Tom's not posted on her for years!

How do you find that page and the listing of who's posted the most number of posts and the rankings?

As someone else said - the really early days were fun, I've been on the Tri Forum and here since day-1. I always loved how Frank Day could turn any thread into a thread about PowerCranks - it could be a deep dive into Sports Nutrition, but Frank would have the thread talking about how PowerCranks can HELP your race day nutrition! LOL! :-)

I can't remember any specifics, but some threads on the main form or here in the Lavendar room would have me laughing hysterically. I know he was banned, but Paulo Sousa did have this biting and dark sense of humor that I think few seemed to understand

RC10 was an interesting character - met him a few times personally. I heard he's had some challenges along the way. Actually there have been many interesting characters who occasionally would pop out behind the veil of being anonymous.

I loved how again in the early days, people like Gerard Vroomen co-founder of Cervelo would be posting up on threads and how super impactful that was, for Cervelo at the time. Remember this was still really early days of the internet and WELL before Social Media. An argument can be made as to how Cervelo and Gerard used the Slowtwitch forum to build their brand and business in those early days of the 2000's.

Finally it's been my true privilege and honor to be the Emcee (and Co-Emcee with the late Sean English for several years) for the last number of years the annual Slowtwitch Kona Race Week Party - THE Social Event of Race week in Kona! Where I have got to meet many ST Forum members personally and in the flesh. That's been awesome!

Were you at the first one? We had it at The Sergio and other Portuguese's condo. Joe and Sue Bonness were there and Sue and I did the drawing for the prizes. It sure has spiraled from there! Sue Bonness passed in 2017. She was a great lady.

Cathy,

Great to hear from you.

No - I was not at that very first ST Kona Party.

I meat Joe and Sue Bonness a few times. Before the Super-Master's athletes of today, Joe was setting extraordinary standards of performance in the older Age-Groups, and doing it with a freakish frequency! Sue was a saint!
