Similar in being over-priced too.

Wonder if they'll come out with a carbon power-meter version for 5000€

Interesting...Frank's patent runs out in 2028; so sales in the USA seem like they would infringe.

Never mind....he let it expire (fee related).

They seem to be free and clear to give it a go as well.

Is bikerumor just pretending like this is a new idea or have they really never heard of Powercranks? In their day, Powercranks were pretty well known.

The only thing wrong with Power Cranks is that power meters became more more prevalent and their fantastical claims were shown to be just that.

He paid the 3-year maintenance fee on the one granted in 2009, but missed the 7.5-year maintenance fee due in 2017. For whatever reason, he decided to file one more recent application in 2018, and he actually received a notice of allowance on the latter ( which basically means that a patent would mature from the application upon payment of a fee) but opted not to pay the issuance fee.

Would seem to suggest that he does not see much revenue stream generated from improvements to his original idea

To go all the way to the point of an issuance fee and then bail seems a bit odd to me but I've no idea about his financial situation. . I'm on about 12 patents based on work I've done for my employer so they paid all of the costs. The issuance fee, when I've bothered to look, was about $1200 which was small relative to using external counsel to develop and file the patent application. I wonder why he bothered to apply in 2018.

I'm not sure what they were called but when I first got into the sport in the late 90's there were pedals that had a clutch in them similar to Power Cranks. Essentially you couldn't pedal backwards. The idea was that you could use your shoe like a lever on the up stroke and over the top. As I remember, they were going to revolutionize cycling.

I actually tried Powercranks for a year before selling them on to someone else.
Using the cranks forced me to pedal at a slower cadence and bigger gear in order to save my hip flexors.
I believe that that was a key to improving my cycling.
Don't need Powercranks to lower your cadence and grind it out though.

Can't remember all the claims on Frank's site... but yeah, a bunch of BS.
