Apparently, it has quite the following on TikTok

Tainted Love by Soft Cell

Just seeing this thread now. In the late 80s, I learned that there were some dedicated Soft Cell fans who loved the band and bought multiple Soft Cell albums, but really couldn't stand Tainted Love.

For me, I love so many of those 80s one-hit wonders. Come On Eileen, like everyone's said. Safety Dance. 867-5309, Big Country. Roxanne Roxanne. I won't remember them all. Shout out for The Waitresses, whose one hit kinda sucked, I thought (I Know What Boys Like) but whose Christmas Wrappings lives on.

Another slightly more current one is New Radicals, You Get What You Give. I'll always turn up the volume on that one when it comes on.

I started a One Hit Wonders channel on my Spotify page and this was one of them. I like this song a lot.

One Hit Wonders were much easier to make/remember when MTV was still alive

[can you believe those songs are THIRTY years old?]

To be fair - or MEAN - Billie Eilish or Ariana Grande COULD BE considered one hit wonders, because their songs sound so totally the same in a way Coldplay could only imagine

I have that Jesus Jones CD from back then, Right Here Right Now got all the airplay but International Bright Young Thing was the best song on the album IMO. There were quite a few good one hit wonders in alternative music back then.

Thirty years ago though? Damn......

For me it was MuchMusic (now just called "Much") growing up in Canada. I think some of my favorite TV memories/pastimes was watching the weekly countdown. I still sometimes listen to RickD's Countdown on the radio, but generally I don't care much for music videos anymore. Most bands/artists are still making them for Youtube, but I don't think there is as much interest as there used to be as far as music and television go. Maybe I'm wrong.

I was thinking that recently about Mumford and Sons. My wife was into them for a while and I couldn't handle listening to a whole album of their songs. They were all the same effing thing.

Billie Eilish is talented for sure. I want to see what she does if she can expand her musical horizon a bit. But you are 100% right all her songs have this "breathy vocals and heavy bass" quality to them that is the same thing every time.

I am really enjoying the podcast “60 songs that define the 90s” - the host is about 1/4 of the way there and the episode on this song in particular is fantastic: https://open.spotify.com/...95OOu5SCuvFLdcu53Xxw

My cousin named Eileen hated that song. It was popular when she was in high school. I couldn’t imagine why?!?
