HED Rim Tape Question...
I've noticed that HED wheels are sometimes delivered with a black, plastic like tape, and other times they are delivered with a tan colored tape that feels more like masking tape.

Is one meant for tubeless only? Or can they both be used safely with tubes?

For tubeless, the black tape only requires one pass. The tan one requires two.

they only sent me the tan one, and I used two passes.... and a tube in my setup.

The tape does both kinds. You know, like country AND western.
one layer if black, two if tan.
If you are tubelessing it works best to put the tape down and then inflate the tire with a tube for an hour or so. That will flatten the tape very nicely. Then take the tube out and set up as normal for tubeless.
