Dave Orlowski (1956-2020)
We are very saddened to learn that one of our original IRONMAN finishers and a pioneer of our sport, Dave Orlowski, has passed away. A marine and retired police officer, Dave was a kind and joyous soul who greeted all with a smile and a distinctive laugh that filled a room. His unmistakable jean shorts, borrowed bike, and storied meals to the 1978 IRONMAN finish made him an endearing figure. He cared about everyone and everything. A member of the Board of Directors and a long-time supporter of the IRONMAN Foundation, Dave continued to give back to the sport he loved dearly and supported the journeys of so many who wished to reach that same IRONMAN finish line. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. We will miss you Dave.

Sad day, thanks for sharing Andrew, got to meet Dave when he competed at the inaugural Ironman Mont-Tremblant in 2012! Awesome guy and really down to earth!

Thanks for the post, but sorry to hear the sad news. Dave was just down the road in Milwaukee and he came up to Madison frequently. I always enjoyed seeing him and chatting as we did frequently. He was a much loved guy and enjoyed sharing his stories. As a cancer survivor, I hope all can learn from Dave and live, laugh and enjoy....time is fleeting. RIP Dave.

Andrew sorry to hear about this news. Pass on our thanks to his family for his imprint on our lives OK now in three weeks, the stars from world championships from 1986, then 1982, and now 1978 passed on. Diego Maradona, from FIFA world cup 1986, Paolo Rossi, FIFA World cup 1982 and now Dave from Ironman 1978. All just a bit older than us but not much.
